Hey guys.
I was just wondering what difference moving the fin back or forward makes on a wave board .I dont know much so i just keep it in the middle , but it would be good to know if i should be doing other wise for wave sailing.

Generally speaking...
further back = stability (and earlier planing)
forward = manoeuvrability
You can apply more pressure to your fin if your foot is directly on top of it.
most common spot tends to be for the front edge of the fin to be roughly in line with the middle of the back footstrap.
Each to their own though. It's a matter of getting used to it as well.

Yeah i've been wondering that quite a bit aswell. Is there a range from where you can have it to far back or forward? Because if back means stability and early planing, thats where i should be setting mine. As far back as possible.

My humble opinion is, the fin position in relation to your back foot strap (back foot), is what effect sailing response the most. If you have your back foot directly over the fin the board is the most responsive. If it is in front of your back foot the board does unpredictable stuff. As the fin goes behind your foot turns are smoother and slower.
However its what works for you that counts, ay?

There's also the spin out factor!!!
Too far back will suck air from the back of the board and you'll spin out with load on the back foot.
Too far forward is a different effect, and I don't understand it all that well, but I think it's when the board starts to leave the water and air gets to the front of the fin. Doesn't necessarily hapen with load, happens more with speed, and chop.
Tried out a mates board 2 days ago, spun out all over the place, noticed the fin was all the way back, moved it forward a centimetre or so and it was fine.

It sounds very much like it's just what you prefer and fin placement is different for everyone. I'll just have to try some differnt places myself.
