I know this is the wrong end of the season to be asking this ...
but if you are wanting to get into the waves in Perth, where are the better spots to start.

Once your in the waves you'll be hooked...
Corronations (about 20km north of Geraldton) would have to be one of the friendliest places in the state for learning in the waves. It's a really soft crumbly wave, with lots of space. Also the further out you go the bigger the breaking waves, so even on a big day you can chicken gybe and pick a size thats good for you. If you check the forecasts they are still gettting some sea breezes up there now too!!!
If thats too far to go then for perth I'd recommend either Dutch Inn (although most of the time it stretching the definition of a wave) or Mettams pool. Both are quite a soft fat wave, especially when compared to the beach break at scarbs. Just watch out for the reef when its low tide.
Have fun

It's the right end of the season! Go the NW fronts: big winds + big waves = big fun.
