Hi, I've lived here all my life on the Gold Coast but only recently learnt how to windsurf in Hawaii so I dont really know the are for windsurfing :P...

I havent done alot of wave sailing before, I prefer flatwater/freestyle and am chasing some flatwater down on the Gold Coast.

basically, Im trying to find a group or someone to sail with at the broadwater...as thats really the only flatwater spot yea?

Thanks for your time,

Ed

Hi Ed.

Are you qualified to sail at such a hardcore location?

Do you own;

1. a fold up chair?

2. a slalom board?

3. a seat harness?

4. a GPS?

5. a mast deflector?

6. sails with cams?

7. a float coat?

If you do, welcome to the Broadwater

Freestyle? Isn't that for swimmers?

On a more serious note, the Broadwater is the most popular sailing spot on the goldcoast and you will always be sailing with someone, any day of the week.

Hey Shimmy, Might have been easier to learn on the Broadwater.
Nice light seabreezes & guttless trades.Invest in a depth sounder
as well as a G.P.S. for those gusty low tide days. Is a 35knot
catapult counted as an all time fastest speed at the Trainless.
Cheers Dirk.

yer the trainless is a good spot aslong as the chair police dont get ya for not owning cams or a gps i would also invest in a huge sail 10 meters and above and ovcoarse i would ripp down one of ur doors at home stick a fin and mast base u should be right. there are not many freeestylers at the train at the most i think there is four or less. but come down anyway justin and i will usually be there

Wow.....all of my sailing was done in Kailua which is mainly flatwater apart from when the swell/wind was right, we would get some nice waves off an island 300meters or so out...I only did about 3 months or windsurfing but I have no problem planing in the straps and harnessed in etc..and I love speed...ofcourse... Over there my mainsail was a 6.6 Ezzy Infinity with cams...

I dont own a slalom board....I have a Naish Enduro 105L Freeride coming in a few weeks tho....and Ill have a nice big slalom fin to go with it for flatwater sailing...

When you say GPS you mean the tracking device?....and also why the seat harness???

Anyways Im down Tweed ways and theres really not much but wave sailing...which I want to get into but also want to keep up the flatwater sailing...

So back here would you advise a 6.0 or 6.6 with cams big enough? (I was hoping to get a NP V6 6.0)

Also where abouts do you launch at the broadwater? and wheres the train? Sorry for all the Q's....

Appreciate your feedback tho

Thanks again,

Ed

Hi Shimmy!

If you live at Tweed and don't want to go all the way up to Broadwater then there's a nice little lake just inland from Cabarita, go down Tamarind drive (one street north of the link to Pacific Highway) till it turns right, and then drive straight to the lake. Or take the Cabarita exit from the Pacific highway, turn left just after going over a little bridge, then left again, follow the road and you're there.

I go there maybe once a week, the whole lake is around waist deep and when the wind is good you can get some good speed.

Apparently the wind there is too 'swirly' for the pros, but at least it's not over an hour's drive away for me like Broadwater is

Would a local to The Broadwater/Train area sailing spot please tell me the best BOM wind reporting point to use. Also a Google Map location would be great, here is a starting point link.www.google.com:443/maps?ll=-27.912974,153.397465&spn=0.090498,0.150358&t=k&hl=en

I like to go by whichever has the best forecast

If you take an average of all the above, subtract 5knots, you're pretty much on the money

You,ll fit in real well. Low tide at the broadie is great, the sandbar is awsome for speedruns. Been a bit slack lately, will have to make an effort this summer.
