Will be heading down that way for a couple of weeks in Dec,what sort of conditions can be expected and as I understand it there are lots of locations to sail is this correct? Will be driving down with all my gear in the trailer so ready for any conditions.I think we are staying at Boomerang beach if any one has idea of an ideal place to stay closer to sailing action it would be appreciated.
For flat - 1. Wallis lake just 5k's north of boomerrang - Go to "the boatshed" at Tiona Park on wallis lake - ask Gabe or Chris, who run the sailing school and best paleces depending on wind direction. 2. Smiths Lake - just 5-10ks south of boomerang - head to the Sandbar caravan park for launch spot - Can be really shallow if the bar has been opened recently. 3. Jimmys beach - Hawkes Nest - Prolly about 50 or so k's south
Another good sailing spot is the the Great Lakes Sailing Club. Just follow the Lakes Way towards Forster and its a couple of minutes further north than Tiona Park. Entrance on your left heading north but be aware as it suddenly appears. Dirt and gravel road down to sailing area. Works in most winds except East. Also watch out for bloody big goanna's!! At that time of the year it should be mainly north east sea breezes which can get pretty strong. They are side off from the right. Shallow water too. Its a beautiful spot with lots of grass for rigging, plenty of parking and toilets and showers. You have to walk out a bit in NE to get deep enough water but once clear you can sail as far as you want. Only bummer is usually finding someone else to sail with!! Staying at Boomerang its only 10 minutes up the road and you have the shops at Blueys for supplies. Both Blueys and Boomerang are great for surf too. Enjoy
