Anyone got any advice for which freeride boards would be suitable for blasting around Safety Bay and at Cott when it is <20 knots? I'm also thinking of doing a couple of the marathons this year so one board that is suitable for both is the plan. Being a fat bastard (95kg) I thinking 110+ Carve or S-type with a 6.4 ish sail would be the go. Any advice?

Hi Tim
At 95kg you would find 110 to 120 a good size for s/bay and cott in sub 20knots. the higher the volume would depend on the sail size.
120 ltrs would prefer a 7.0m sail and the 110 something like the 6.5m.
You would find that at 95kgs you could use a 7.0 in lots of wind so it would be a more all round size for you.
In cocos this year the 115 ltr boards were very popular with the 6.5 sails for sailors ranging from 75 to 85 kgs so maybe you would want to go alittle bigger.
It does also depend on the type of sail you are thinking about. EG the no cam sails prefer a wave/freeride style of board while the cam sails like the more freeride/slalom boards - generally, but not always.
the stype you mentioned is a good allround board as it, like some others, can be set with straps on the edge to fast slalom riding, or with straps in the middle more for smoother riding in rough water, and it makes a big difference. The carve is cruisey and quite quick but the s-type is faster and would suit the racing.
