I am looking at getting back into windsurfing as I am getting rapidly bored with kiting.
I was wondering if I weigh about 90kg and am using around 105-110L freestyle board with a 6m rig what would be the lowest wind strength I could head out in and have fun? By fun I mean a planing so I can get pop.
Having had a brief look at the new boards (I was windsurfing around 10-11yrs ago) they seem a fair bit different to what I was using.

Welcome back!

I use a skate 112 and a 6.4 S2 Severne and usually get going around 13-15 knts with a 32cm fin - (but who ever actually measures wind speed) - need a bit more effort if I use the freestyle fin. I sure aint a freestyler just bought the skate to get me out in the surf if its light or for light seabreeze sailing

I am around the same weight - I found last summer I can usually get going at around the same wind that the local Kiters hit the water

I am sure some of the crew here will get planing in similar

Not sure how useful that is

I have a old JP freestyle 103 (not a freestyler, it's just my smallest board), I'm 96kg but I really need 19-20knots (as read from current BOM readings) with my 6.2 sail. Worth noting that board has taken on a fair bit of water and small freestyle fin so I sink below my knees in low wind.

Cheers guys, need to see what kind of trade I can get on my kite gear now.
Russh you able to pop the 112 skate without too much trouble or does it feel a bit big? Also what year did they stop making the 112 skate? All I can find is the 108.
