Looking for advice on gear to take for a 2 week WA sailing trip in January 1, mainly Lancelin & Cervates. Trying to avoid hauling too much gear. I'll be sailing with my partner who is 50kg (i'm 88kg). Planning to take a 85l wave board for her to use in flat water & B&J. I'll use the 85 for wave and hi wind. And I'll also have a 91L FSW for flat & B&J. Sails from 3.7 to 6.4m. I was wondering if i should take a bigger board as well and a 7.4m. Don't want to be sitting around in light days (hoping there wont be too many). Any thoughts

You should be ok in Lano & Cervantes with the smaller gear but if you have the room a bigger board and the 7.4 would be good security

Hey,

I sail lano a fair bit in summer and find my 4.7 on a 75l wave board is nearly always sufficient from 12:00 onwards, maybs becoming more 4.2 bout 3:00 depending on how good the wind is. I weigh around 75kg. Bigger sails are needed for the morning sessions, around 10:00. I pick my weeks for wind but... If u have set times I would say take it all.

Simon.

I'm with you simon, If you can't plan your trip on the weather map, take as much gear as you can. It will always be the sail/board you leave behind that will the one you need when you get there (I think Murphy had something to say about this as well!)

Thanks guys for the advice. Looks like I'll take the lot. Hope Qantas don't get too upset. May even need to buy a smaller sail for the other half.

If it's only for 2 weeks you may wish to do the real tourist thing and look at Hiring.

Possibly a lot less stress than wondering if the "chuckers" are going to make your gear do a loop when unloading the big white bird.

I think you will find that at that time of year it is either blowing its ......'s off or not blowing at all. Don't really remember wishing I had a bigger sail. My largest is a 5.8 search on a 85 ltr FSW. Plus you r 3.7 should be sweet for the better half. If not you can hire a small sail for the day its nuclear. (Lano only)

it looks windy enough

papac, I agree with the others! It is very rare for it to be calm around that time of year so leave your 6m+ sails at home.

Give Leeman a go if it is light-on elsewhere up there. Link attached from a local wind shop has heaps of great info... (I have no affiliation with this shop, just showing you a handy local info site!)

http://www.windsurfingperth.com.au/wsurf-location.html

Map shows major centres with Geraldton about 4.5 hours north and Gnaraloo approx 10-11 hours North (given dirt track for last 120km) to give you an idea of travel time.

Getting gone!!!

Thank's for all the advice. The windsurfing perth is a great site. Didn't even consider Leeman, will go up and have a look anyway. I'll check the weather patterns before leaving Sydney and if it look goods then leave the big gear behind and rent if need be.... or do some sight seeing.

Cheers,
