Fantastic photo, I saw something like this at Exmouth a few years ago, didn't have my camera pointing in the right direction, and it was a bit far out anyway.
Thought at the time it would have made a great picture, this confirms it.

nice shot. hate to run into one! i almost did run into one, sea kayaking a while ago up cape york - surfing down a swell and thought it was a shipping container right in front of me and i was ****ed, then it swam away just in time.
interesting topic for a thread - what's the most unusual bit of wildlife you've hit / near missed while windsurfing? i've gone close to a few penguins, and sliced a few jellyfish, that's about it.

Actually that was my mate sailing, but I almost ran over one because of the glare on the ocean, I didn't spot the 40 foot whale coming towards me.Luckily it ducked.

I nearly hit a Caraboa or Water Buffalo.
They sit in the shallow water with just their nostrals out for breathing and their horns level with the surface so you can't see them.
When you spook them they are real scary because you don't know which way they're going to run and they weigh about 2 tonnes.

They don't like being a gybe marker either!
