Hi mates, I have my Uni brake on the 15th of April for a couple of weeks, and I was thinking of going to Gnaraloo for a few sessions if it is worth it. So, do you think it is worth it? Will it be windy? Or is it too late in the season?

too late in season. no wind or swell .)

just hot and flies !

Just kidding !

But if you are lucky you MAY just score it all time. av 4 days sailing out of 10 this time of year. Less windy but some good swell may be scored. If you can read a weather map you WILL be able to pick it.

wow what a coincidence
i was just going to post that very same question
a few mates and i are going to the bluff for a week surf trip but all of them are surfers and i wasnt gonna bother taking my windwanking stuff up (thats what they call it) unless it was gonna be windy?
ive surfed up there alot during april to august but never took any notice of the wind (one track mind)
this time id like to surf in the morning with buddies and go windwank while they sit and watch
is it worth taking my gear up is there good sailing in gnaraloo bay other than tombies flatwater etc
thanks
see you up there rick

OK, this data is from BOM and is the carnarvon airport wind report data for the last xx years (I don't know how many). I have fiddled with it so it can be read as follows. The left shows month and time and the columns show percentage of time either 21-30km/h or > 30km/h, I skipped the stuff less than 21km/h. For example in april the wind is over 30km/h 11% of the time in the morning and 16% of the time in the afternoon. Based on those odds I'd be taking my diving gear and a surfboard.

I have been up a couple of times before in april. Not a lot of wind, but have always had at least one sail The diving and surfing can be ok. The flies on the other hand can be really really F$%^(*& bad. I do remb eating lunch under a double bed fly net for a week.

So when do you figure is the best time to be up there? When can you get most days with wind, and some swell enough to play in? Is 78lit good enough for there? Can you fight the flies with chop-sticks like karate kid?
