By the pricking of my thumbs,
some wind, for Queensland, this way comes!

Roll on Sunday, it feels like years since I've heard that planing rat-a-tat from my board

mmm
forecasts for the Gold coast look like it will hit at midnight and drop off during Sunday.Usual frustration finding somewhere that will work in S/Sw wind in the morning at this time of year when the east tends to be given the cold shoulder from the wind direction ,and then watching it die as the afternoon arrives and it turns more s/se.I hope not, however I will be watching the nsw observations to decide whether to drive an hour south to a certain spot before Balina on Sat afternoon.I am sure others do this but I time the change progressing up the coast to see how long it lasts before blowing itself out and what time it will actually hit.It has worked the last number of times and sometimes means hitting somewhere pat malone in the early morning .Gotta have a passion...

Hey Rustle,

Certain spot wouldn't rhyme with "Fat Sock" would it? Also do you know of a place that would work in that wind where the water's reasonably flat? Still getting the hang of gybes and tacks... quite keen to do a bit of dawn sailing if that's what it takes

Seems we are on the cusp season.
Does Wello work in a dead southerly?
I have sailed there once that morning Haircut in the westerly when the toilet block was the only respite from the 40knts+.Great fun however you need the chop of the stronger wind.
If all else fails I will make the trip but I believe I need a trailer now.

That's debateable gestalt.
Never sailed there myself but know plenty that have.
and low tide forget it, at lest at wello you can still get out.
Anyway lets hope it blows that forecast looks pretty dodgy.

nope, dead south is no good at wello. the western side of wello is best from SW around to E. probably the best spot in a NW or NE.

SE works at wello if you launch down the boat ramp on the eastern side and then sail through the channel out into the bay.

victoria point is the best in a SW to SE but has a real tide issue. leaves wello for dead in those wind directions.

redcliffe will also work in a southerly.

I dunno how you can say that, vicky point is kinda gusty. We all know you just hate cutting your feet on the coral . Gestalt I will say when I was first exposed to the eastern side of wello it was long board racing and yes we had to tack out through the channel and yes it sucked (and tacking in the channel only is required when it is East). But after freesailing there it has a good mix- short chop, flat water and decent swells for jumping out the back BUT it also has the most consistent wind in a Southerly. I've ridden my 60L waveboard quite a few times at wello without drama, take it elsewhere and I sink and have a **** time.

yes, i must admit i never forgave the reef. couldn't walk properly for about 6 months after the big toe was stitched back together.

i'm still a big fan of the place that can no longer be mentioned. (good point vando)...

but mark a southerly is dead offshore at wello. dead onshore at the place that can no longer be mentioned

More like cross side shore Gestalt.
you need to dredge about 500m to get to the wind.
It could be better at you know where in a southerly.

Oh gawd you guys are depraved. "Flat Rock" ring any bells? Although the sign out the front has been vandalised to read something a lot more saucy...

Hmmm... wedding saturday night, probably lots of alcohol with my name written all over it, get up early for a session... cold water sounds like the perfect hangover cure But as usual none of you guys can agree on a location, so I'll just have to get out the reeferdex combined with google earth and go for a soul session. Y'know, if we could just have the nous to be able to organise a chook raffle in a pub we might just be able to turn up at a certain spot and have loads of guys all ripping away, good fun, but as it is it will turn out to be the normal everyone doing their own thing at their own location. *sigh*

Hey Haircut, have you sailed the rivermouth at tweed heads? Looks like it might be good in a southerly/SE.

Totally offtopic, anyone here heard of "flashmobs"?

i've gone down the golf course to go out there a few times but never got on the water. Has definate possibilities. Its the same tide as the train, and like shearwater - it needs wind against tide to kill the current effect. I'd definately be in it sometime when tide is right. Nice and close to home. Works well from south to southeast, and on northerlies

Hey Haircut,

Whereabouts is shearwater? I think it's just north of the train, is this right? Or am I thinking of narrowneck (haven't been to either of them).

Whereabouts do you set up and launch from?

I'm definitely up for a full day's sailing tomorrow, can't wait

Shearwater it is!
Sounds like a good forecast with a nice 25knt sou-easter and hopefully a mid-morning out going tide. Nebbian- Shearwater is located at Runaway Bay just past the Runaway Bay Shopping Centre. Travel north along Bayview Street and then take a right at the roundabout after the shopping centre (unsure what the street name is) and weave your way east (left then right) until you hit shearwater park. Someone else may fill you in with better details but I hope this helps,
ed

kewl

Nebs - the name of the street is Lae Drive. Like Eggs said, head north till u get to runaway bay shopping centre, turn right at the big roundabout, then left, then first right, and you just about end up running right into the car park where you rig. Nice spot. Tide will be good from about 10.30 onward by the looks No toilets or running water so bring a drink and a porta potty

see you there

Man, what an AWESOME day at the shearwater! 15-20 knots, about a dozen windsurfers and 6 kitesurfers at any one time, plenty of power boats to create some nice ramps for the keener amongst us... Yeeeha!! Haven't had that much fun in ages
