I use Melville Water. I am pretty sure that the weather station is on a small boat between Peli Pt and the Nedlands(?) yatch club. I reckon that it under reads wind strength for west, north west and northerly winds (compared to actual wind at Lucky Bay) as it is in the lee shore (correct me if I'm wrong here).

The Rock man is on the money... The river has some "challenging" wind conditions due to the many land effects in play.

..all assuming you mean the swan river around Pelican Point/Lucky bay that is, not midland..

Swanbourne is the closest, but after a while you get a feel for what the wind is doing by comparing several of the graphs closest to your fave spot *after* you have sailed. I know of one guy who has graphs of 'perfect' conditions printed on his wall as a reference of when it's best to hit the beach...

cheers laurie,

Is Ocean Reef the stretch of coast a bit further north then?

Sort of up near Trigg and North Beach?

The graphs say its Southerly, hoping its going to pick up a few knots. Pelican Point or Applecross? I'm thinking it should be cross shore port tack for P Point and cross shore starboard tack for Applecross. Does that sound about right.

Geographys not my strong point
