Daughter #1 has been tarting up a skateboard she got from a friend and has painted it a funky pink colour. I suggested putting a sail on it, but she's not too keen. Just as well - carbon smashing into concrete probably wouldn't be too good for my masts . Anyway, I said we could probably put a non-slip surface on the deck the way it was done with glass boards. Hopefully the resin I have in the shed hasn't gone off since the last time I used some in 1998. Thin layer of resin over artwork, sprinkle of sugar or salt crystals, and let it go off.
Anyone see a problem with this or suggest a better approach. There shouldn't be too much flex in the deck to crack a thin layer of resin, hopefully.
I made a land board, bits of ply with wheels and a windsurf rig on it To do grip, i started by painting it then throwing sand on it, but that wore off so i got out the good ol liquid nails and stuck sandpaper to it

Sounds real pretty! - I think MikeyS daughter probably wants to see her decorations though, so unless you know where to get clear sandpaper??
Mikey, you can use normal polyurethane/varnish instead of the resin - it won't last quite as long, but it'll be easier and less messy (especially if your resin is suspect)
there is actually a clear product with a sandy like finish, its made by factoryfx and is used for motocross, we use it on the sidepanels for extra grip, but its clear so you can still have sponsor stickers under, go to your local motocross shop and enquire
Thanks all. We went with a polyurethane and sugar in the end. Guess what- polyester resin doesn't need catalyst after all, as long as you're prepared to wait ten years for it to cross-link.
I like the grip tape idea, MD74. There's a few places on my boat that I could use some of that.

he he... I've done that. Isn't it beautiful, so clear and pure and solid as a rock... Use it or lose it.
