Hi Seabreezers,

I'm a Pom who's on his way over to Perth for most of the Summer. (Nov-Feb) I'm pretty limited by the amount of windsurfing gear I can get on that big white aeroplane, so I've set myself a maximum of three sails.

I need some advice on which ones to bring

Choices are: 6.7m 5.7m 5.0m 4.0m

If YOU could have any 3, which would you take?

Thanks for your help,

Adam

What board goes with them, whats your weight ?

I'm heavy, so it needs to be 30-35 knots for me to use a 4.0, which is rare during summer. 6.7 will see more water time, but one session in 4.0 conditions beats 20 sessions with a 6.7!

Hmm,

Maybe I was a little vague with my question.

Put it like this:

How strong does that Freemantle Doctor blow?

Tough question! In a good season, plenty of days around 25 knots .. a mild season will see lots of 12-18, some 18-23 knot days. Head up to Geraldton and it regularly reaches 30 knots.

I highly recommend you visit windsurfwa.com/index.html where Micheal has written just about everything you need to know!

Most wave sailers in Perth have a 5.0/5.2 m2 size sail which you use most of the time, with maybe a 4.2/4.5 under that, and a 5.5 / 5.7 for the lighter days. (I only have the smaller two) Forget the 6+ sail, you can go to the pub, or lie on the beach on the light wind days - you should get plenty of good days in a normal year.
