Hi everybody,

Since I am going to stay in Bayswater, Vic. and have arranged to take my windsurfing equipment with me I need some advice concerning the sail-sizes I will have to bring along. I will bring along a 105l Hifly Move and a 114l RRD board. The sails I have at hand are: 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.5, 6.3! (By the way: my weight is 65kg) Can somebody tell me sth about the conditions that will meet me in the Melbourne area? What sails do you sail? Where do you sail....

Greetz Tobi

PS: Here at home I am surfing on the Baltic coast and in Danmark. I go out from 10 to 35 knots.

Hi Tobi.
I think your sail sizes should have it well covered. Apart from the rare 35 knot day, like yesterday (Monday) and predicted for today, we usually get onshore to cross onshore 15-20 knot sea breezes over the next few months, usually with 1 metre waves. My biggest and most commonly used sail is a 5.4 (I'm 70 kilos), but I get to use my favourite 4.7 maybe once a month. Rarely get to use a 4.2, and have never used my 3.7, (but would have if I could have escaped from work yesterday). I usually sail anywhere from St Kilda to Brighton. Bayswater is probably 45 minutes from the bay, so I hope you're arranging a car. Edithvale or Aspendale are probably the closest launch. Use the wind readings from Fawkner Beacon as the most accurate for the north east part of the bay, which is where you are most likely to sail. And if you do get transport, you've got to have a sail at Sandy Point, which is about 2 1/2 hours east of Melbourne. Currently the slowest sailor there is a guy named Chris Lockwood, who can only achieve 46 knots. Cheers

G'day Tobi
Leave those huge boards at home, I'm 65kg and anything over 85L is to big, the big boards just bounce all over the ocean.
