Greetings all. First time post so excuse me if I get things wrong. Just had to tell you about a great time in Fiji at a windsurfing camp. Learnt heaps, drunk heaps, one on one instruction(I was the only windsurfer there at the time) On the water for 9 days straight. 4 days wind was 5 - 10 kts other days 20 - 30 kts. Water temp 15c(luke warm bath)

G/Day Wind Warrior and you made the right choice no regret playing this sport
Lots of crew over your side to help you as you get set up.

You only have to yell out, and they will assist (probably pull the p1zz first up but do help out)

Thanks for the welcome. Went to Fiji with the aim of water starting and gybing. Came away achieving both, so looking forward to some decent weather here to try it out again.

You would like Mauritius then Wind Warrior. I've just got back I sailed 12 out of 14 days, the water was also warm at 23 degrees.

I wonder how long it will take a certain apparel company to notice this username?

Hmmm....

When I was looking for where to go on holiday I also saw some great write ups on Cairo. Supposed to be very constant 20 kts and flat waters

As to the username perhaps we should beat them to there own game and do our own T Shirt. It was the nickname my coach in Fiji gave me.

How does it compare to Inverloch? Can you get that amount of chop in Inverloch? Did the tide match up with the wind, or did you have a bit of a walk to get out there?

20 to 30 knots is seriously windy. Was this measured or estimated? The guy that taught me how to sail originally used to say that it was 20 to 25 knots all the time, even if it was 12

Cairo? Ah, I think you might be a little bit off there. Dahab or Moon Beach maybe, but not Cairo.

The water in Dahab is flatter than Fiji though and the range of hire gear is pretty good and included in the price. It was a bit more gusty though close to the shore, but it was much less choppy.

The one thing they have in common is the number of activities to do if there is no wind...

Comparing sailing conditions in Fiji to Inverloch

At Inverloch I sail in Anderson's Inlet where it is fairly flat waters most of the time and you have to deal with a tide that can run 5 kts which exposes a big sand island in the middle. So wind direction can be critical. Does not work that well on Northerlies.
Water is fridged all year round.
At Fiji, I was up the North of the main Island in a place called Raki Raki. Where I was staying fronted onto the beach(narrow) with a coral shelf that ran out about 100 mtrs. The wind blew all day and tended to freshen in the afternoon. The locals(non sailors) said the wind freshened with the tide change but I did not see this
You could sail with the tide out but you had to walk out past the coral and launch from the coral edge. It was a small horse shoe open bay? that had Islands to one side. Once you got out past the tips of the bay the wind would click up another 5 kts and the chop went to around 2ft on 20 kt days. Inside the bay? it was quite flat.

There where 6 kiteys staying in the same place but they where grumbling most of the time about the wind. The time the wind was right for them they did not wait for the tide to rise enough and they destroyed lines and 1 kite on exposed coral.
The wind speed was not measured but it was the windiest I have been out in and I normally sail a 144 ltr with a 6.5mtr. I weigh around 80 kgs. One morning and 1 afternoon it blew 25 - 30 kts I started with a 6 mtr and downsized to a 5.5mtr after some amazing wipeouts.

I suffer from oldtimers disease Formulanova. I think you are right with Dahab rather than Cairo
