what size rig could I run on a 430 mast the boards a carve 123
I,m a weed at about 75kg and want to sail in around 15-20 kts
been using a 6.0 but just seems a tad small had a go with a mates
7.somthing and was just to much of a hand full ...

I just bought a 2006 Severne 6.5 NCX. Limited use so far but it has great reviews.

thanks for that will have a look yha alfrid cove is my normal hount
can get packed in summer arvos but all good hire shop is like 2 min

You can use a 430 extended hugely (I do) but it may or may not work. The first thing to realise is that it will be softer than optimum for the sail but as you are light that probably doesn't matter much. The second thing to realise is the the curve will vary from ideal. If the sail is camless it'll probably work. If its cambered it may be more mast sensitive. If its a race sail its going to be suboptimal and probably not what you want. If the 430 is an NP with a 15% bend you may well find its bloody lovely. If its a skinny with a 10% bend it will most likely feel too soft in the bottom and set too flat.

I'm using a 12% bend mast in an Ezzy 6.5 SE and I really like it. But I'm light, and the Ezzy is designed to suit a 10% bend better anyway (although its not very mast sensitive) so an extended 12% is close to ideal in the bottom where it matters.

Best to try before you buy.
