Saw this guy open up the back of his Toyota Hi-ace van by the beach the other day. I couldn't believe the amount of gear this guy had. It looked like he was opening a mobile windsurfer shop !!!

Which led me to wonder just how much gear most people have.

I've got 1 board, 1 mast, 3 sails.

What about everyone else

Regards,
Harrow.

1 board
1 boom
2 masts
2 sails
1 fin

I may have to become a 2 boards'man (for light days over here)..but I am not too happy about it..it's too much gear to carry around then.

and then you spend too much time thinking about what sails to rig..which fin today? and on which board?..the wind might pick up? then I'll come back and change sail..then later maybe I'll change fin..then board..blablablablabla

I personnally prefer to live close to a spot.
If you live close you don't need that much stuff. When it is on..you are out.
But if you don't know how to read the forecast/ or want to go all day to the beach/ or want to sail all the time even when there's no wind at all / or you 've got some money to spill/ then yeah you need at least a huge truck, 10 boards, 20 booms, 20 sails, 40 masts, 100 wetsuits, 200 extensions, 500 fins....eskies, bbqs, dvd players, guitars, books....godknowswhat else

Seems I have an anorexic collection compared to all the rest.

1 board
1 boom
1 mast
2 sails
2 fins.

As for the keys, I saw people put it on their car tyres. Why not putting it in your harness or wetsuit or even attach it inside your shorts? Done all three of the above options and they work fine.

Those with so much gear should all agree to leave the car keys in the front right tyre so that others that have forgotten one bit or have just broken something could help themselves and borrow what they need.

Actually, just to let you know, I might borrow a mast next time, I've just broken mine.

Hellemam,

Unfortunately my key has a built in remote control for the car security and immobiliser. So I am forced to hide the key on the car body. So much for car security !!!

I dare not try and take it with me - if it got water damaged, I would not be able to drive home.)

Harrow.

Get a non-electric blank cut and lock the electric/immobiliser key in your car

1 board 74 litre evo
1 sail 5.3
1 mast 400 rdm
1 boom
1 fin 8.5inches

This gets me out at Cronulla 90% of the time in Sydney's NE seabreezes

If I could afford to I would add. 4.7 sail, 5.7 sail and 90-95 litre freestyle wave

Not a bad idea, except it does not allow me to turn on the car alarm.

I live 2 minutes walk from the water (but mostly sail 5 minutes drive away where all the women are ). Thanks to seabreeze I really only ever take 1 board and sail to the beach and am right 95% of the time.

Does anyone else have designs like that but then for a normal roof rack? At the swapmeet I saw someones 4WD with an aluminium case on the roof made for windsurf boards.
I work in the city and would like to go windsurfing after work without having to go back home and thus losing an hour. I can put mast, sails and boom inside the car but the board has to stay on top of the car. I have been thinking and looking for a way to safely keep the board on the rack. I found one website (New Zealand) that used a few bolts and a piece of pipe in the fin box that allows you to padlock the board to the roofrack. Still it keeps the board in the open. I was thinking along the lines of a complete lockable shell.

Any ideas? Links? Or am I better off buying an old van or rent space at Nedlands Yacht club?

pete makes quiver boxes for four wheel drives.... you can get him to custom make it to what ever size you need. he will tell you if he thinks it wont work (ie. to big)......

i wouldn't go over 2.1m in total height. all public carparks are designed to be 2300mm due to dissable requirements. that is in queensland at least. also most residential garage doors are only 2100mm max height.

Hi Hellemam. Another place to look would be www.stickprotection.com They have a lockable tiedown system. Tell them Tony sent you.

Northboy, Gestalt,

Thanks for those links.
Both ideas are great. The tiedown straps look like the most economic and appealing at the moment.

Cheers,

Michael
