How many loops do you do to tie the sail to the clew of the boom ?

I have been told that one is enough provided the cord is strong enough.

That is great because I can rig my sail faster.

Technically, I could do 4 loops. But what are the consequences? is it harder to windsurf ? Is there a greater risk of unrigging while sailing?

As many as necessary as few as possible. probably three. that's what I do

I sail with speed sailors who use just one aspart of their adjustable system. One is absolutely fine. Two is just as good. Get a boom with the loop-looop go system. The you just keep the rope through the cleat knotted pass the loop through the boom and over the 'catcher' and pull on outhaul.....really really quick.

Looks like there won't be too many sensible answeres to this one.

Well it seems the main issue for Ivanovich is to save time on rigging....

How about putting a hook on the outhaul and attaching it with a rubber band ??
Or maybe when de-rigging, just undo the boom head and roll the sail with the wishbone around the mast... (after removing the battens )

For christ sake, how long can it take to rig a sail ?

Glad that you, too, have suspicions about this fellow. His questions about speed of rigging (why didn't somebody tell him to use a loop/loop/go system?), and rope tensions (who cares? Just use 4mm Marlow rope like the rest of the windsurfing world) and number of loops in the outhaul rope seem out of whack, given the windsurf magazines, learner DVD's and learner videos that are available to help, as well as the windsurf/marine shops in the UAE where he can ask for help. I particularly found his “outhaul loop speed” question suspect, given that, if he gets caught at one set of traffic lights on his way to the beach, or he's got to hunt for a parking space, he's lost all his advantage using the advice here.

You may think I'm being too harsh, but he's asking exactly the same questions on the iWindsurf forum.

Hey, Yvan, tell us what boards, sails, masts and booms you've got and what level of sailing you're at 'cos at this stage I think you're just trolling. Is your English name Bruce??

Am I being too harsh again? Google “Windsurf UAE” and check the hits where he can ask for local advice. Also, check the profile he provided.

I'm willing to eat humble pie if I'm wrong, but in the meantime, suggest others back off on their advice until this guy proves his bona fides and perhaps others could follow his ISP links to (wherever) and advise.

I have google the term loop/loop/go system but could not find any pics so I still have difficulty understanding this particular design which was also mentionned by another person.


I took a friend with me to the beach (I don't always feel safe going alone on an unsupervised beach). He has never windsurfed, but after discussing it, he told that the problem with the sport is that if I need to drive 30 minutes, then another 15 minutes to bring everything on the beach and rig my sail, that must put off many people (on that day the wind was so strong I could only windsurf 30 minutes). That is how everything started.

30 min drive? ...... I should be so lucky! The last time I went to the coast had to drive for two hours, and after rigging up had to walk a km with board and rig through 6 inches of water until it was deep enough to sail! But had friggin awesome day and I would do it every week I could.


Although that said , I know what you mean, I had intended to hike up Everest in christmas holidays but when I found out it would be more than 40 mins in the car before I could even have go I decided not to bother.
