Sailed for two hours straight on Saturday, flat out. Muscles hurt, joints hurt, went home, drank two beers for reydration laid down and that was it. In bed from 5pm. So was it
a. old age
b. unfitness (been looking for minerals inland for half the year)
c. Dehydration
d. Not enough to eat (only had a banana and almonds) couldn't find any dinosaur bones to chew on!

My whole body was SCREAMING at me.
What do YOU think???

People pay a lot of money for similar exercise, and this is exercise we enjoy. Most people go for about an hour at the gym including warmup and warmdown. Imagine how you would feel going at it for 2-hours. I have to keep reminding myself to drink water though.

I feel really worn out after a good session, and sleep like a log. I am a tad older than Hardie.

45, started going down hill from 23. I know a Sailboard shop owner who is at least 60 and sails at Sandy Point every year. I want to be just like him when I'm his age. Maybe more beer might help ??

The cure

More Time on water will build the fitness up.

re age

The Captain of safety bay sails way out back on the long runs and is (I think ) in his 70's

Decrep on our GPS team still outsails us spring chuckins (40+)

Kato just sailed over 300 K's yesterday, I'm guessing thats at lest 10hr's worth, so HTFU

I reckon the pain from sailing's a lot better than from digging holes

But I do know where you're coming from, after my last sail it felt like I'd been run over by a truck, too long between sails

I just checked your profile, if you're that old, stop complaining you stupid old b*stard

Isn't that just great when you sail til you absolutely drop from an all pervading, no part left untouched, exhaustion and you can't think quickly enough to undress without falling over. You feel just utterly spent.

I guess you know about glucosamine & condroitin Stone Age, not to mention fish oil, St Johns Wart, Ginkgo Biloba. All these things can be substituted for by beer so you're on the right track - best thing for a screaming body.

I,m 47.
I think too old is when you think your too old! If your having fun what does it matter how old you are.
I try to keep fit and cycle a lot. I aim at to cycle to and from work 3 days a week (150ks total) and Today I gave sailing a miss and did the Sydney to the Gong ride (90ks).
I only every took up cycling to keep fit for my windsurfing.
Besides you don't have to be radical every time you hit the water its just abut haveing lots of fun!

The brain may well think that but the body sometimes has other ideas!

That's when you know the rot has started. With me it was, "think mast high is too big for me now"
Also thought it was too late to try and sail away from my backloop attempts, but when I know there's a pretty lady behind me, can't help myself, have to go for them. so I guess there's hope for me yet.

Hey you young spring chickens - I am 50 plus and still happy to do 4 hrs plus before I come in. A beer( long neck for us oldies) and a good chat is a great tonic for us oldies. A bex, massage from the wife, week off work all helps also. Met a couple (yes man and woman) in there 70s going out on an old board and triangular sail with no harnesses in 15 - 20 knot winds. Taking pictures of each other as they took off. That is my goal to reach that age and to be windsurfing - as my wife is a horse rider perhaps I will have to replace her someone a bit younger.

You're too old only when your body stops screaming back at you... and just turns off the power completely.

There's no such thing as too old..

There's too knackered, too lazy, too fat, too broken, too doddery, too blind, too sensible or too stupid..

If you're not any of those, then there's no excuse.

If your whole body is screaming at you, just do the same as when the wife/mother/kids are screaming at you - just ignore it and carry on! The screaming will stop eventually.

A friend of mine once said that pain is good.. if you can feel pain, it means you're still alive!

Met a guy who was in hospital after a heart attack - he spent his time staring out the window at the windsurfers on the lake while he was recovering, and decided that he was going to become a windsurfer. That was 16 years ago when he was 70. I met him in that same lake. He'd do a run across and back, then stop for a bit of a rest before doing it again. The old bugger is 86, so he has my respect even if he does stop for rests!

if your not breathing anymore your too old, apart from that just sail more and you will not hurt so much after it. i wave sail with a fella who is 65, he never misses a day, just doesn't jump much anymore..

I reckon the older you are the more radical moves you should go for! You've already had a good run and if it all comes to a crashing holt on a failed triple back-loop in double mast high waves, well...whats that saying..... its better to burn out then fade away or something. Go hard you old coots!

Not saying I'm anywhere near too old, but sailing yesterday had a bit of a 'coming-of-age....

During a great session, waterstarted to plane, hooked-in, slipped into straps, (it's just all to easy!), and notice that my vision was interrupted, shaking head noticed that my 'hair' was in my eyes and affecting my reading of the gusts and choppy water in front of me.....shaking head, flicking from side to side, trying not to lose balance (re-living my youth, tossing head around like a teenage surfing legend), when I remembered.........

......"hang on - I'm near BALD, and what's left is down to a No.1 clipper!!!"

Suddenly, the realisation hit me..........

The hair.........

.......was from my EYEBROWS!!!

There's alot to be said for spending a little more time in front of the mirror from time-to-time. Eyebrows, nostrils and ears are all on my 'to-do-list'....(not to mention shoulders!!!)

Trim-time....when I next get a chance!
