Hi,
I am just off beginner, bought new board this week.
Whenever I try to put footstrap on board, it tends to turn into the wind. Then ofcause, fall.
I guess I am putting weight on the side, and/or holding a boom too close to mast.
How can I avoid it happening. I want to go straight, as when i was putting my foot on near mast.
How?

Gemax, need to push through the balls of your feet.
Same issue when I started, one way was OK other way coming back I pulled up into the wind time and time again.

Guy Cribb web page has some good tips on this. type it into google and then read the techniques section on foot straps

Guy calls it the Elvis thrust, pushing your hips towards board and weight up onto the balls of your feet

Hope tghis helps.

Hi Gemax,

Are you planing when you try to put your foot in the footstrap? You'll know when you're planing, because suddenly you're going twice as fast as you ever have gone before, and the board skips along and becomes very very twitchy. It also makes a noise like a machine gun!

You definitely need to be planing when you go for the footstraps. If you're not planing, there's no point going for the straps, as you just sinnk the tail and then stop.

Assuming you're on the plane, you need to push down with your toes when you put your foot in the strap. This means that the windward rail doesn't sink, and you keep going in a straight line. After a bit of practice it all becomes easy and you wonder what all the fuss was about

And you need to be in your harness!! Otherwise your arms will fall off. Try to get you weight off your feet and 'hang' from the harness lines. Try just getting your front foot in first. If you got different spots on the board to put the straps put them in the forward position when you are learning, then gradually move them back.
Let us know how your first catapult went....

Mast foot forward might help but good advice from previous, must be planning and keep body upright until comfy then adjust weight forward-back-inboard-outboard until you find the "sweet spot"

You have to be able to insert without looking down.
Hmmm reminds me of a girl I met once ...just once.
