Hi all,
I am an italian windsurfer planning to go to a trip with my boyfriend to Melbourne, Tasmania & West Oz this winter. We have already been to West oz and we are looking for other location info.
In december (from 14 to 21) in Tasmania NW (Marrawah) we can use a 3,2 wetsuit? Is easy to find a cheap place for accomodation in Marrawah or it is better camping? We will arrive at Launceston airport, does anyone can suggest where to rent a cheap van or a station wagon with roof racks?
We will spend a day in Melbourne? If windy where we can windsurf (better waveriding) near Melbourne?
Thanks to all for any helpuful info.
Ciao

Hi,
or is it Chow. ( that's a dog food brand here).

my wife is currently holidaying near sienna in Tuscany.

your winter is our summer and waves will be at Torquay a 55 min drive from melbourne. Otherwise the bay will be ok for fun and some large chop.

Summer is usually 15-20kt seabreezes south to SW. start about 3pm, it's daylight to about 9pm.

Look up "easty" for his contact details on this forum, he's there in 2 head land.

yes and hello from all the two headed ones here in tassie. thanks tony, and what are you doing awake and on the computer at 5.00 in the morning when the cheese and kisses is away, unless you're planning on a long drive to a particular sandy point?
water temp at marrawah at that time of year is likely to be fairly chilly, and most would use a 4.3, but if you are used to colder climes and it's a warmer day then you might be allright. also depends how much time you spend actually in the water! (must get my gybes happening!) not sure on the accom. scene there, but the camping is great, right on the action. you should be able to rent a cheap auto somewhere in launnie, check out yellow pages in phonebook (or internet) for places like lo-cost auto rent, rent-a-bomb, rent-a-bug etc. you'll enjoy tassies pristine unpolluted air and water, especially if you sail in melbourne before coming over. (sorry tony, couldn't resist!)
anyway it's my b'day today, so i'm off to the north coast via the east coast, and will hopefully get a nice pressie from huey. easty

Thanks for your info.
Any contact and additional info, expecially about Tassie, will be appreciated. Here in Italy we are used to cold in winter an I hope the 3,2 with long sleeves a lycra will be enought.
We will be in Melbourne only 1 day (may be Torquay will work), then we will fly to Tassie for 1 week. We will fly with Virgin Blue as I have seen in the web that is a friendly company for transport windusurf gear, isn't it?
Do you think there will be someone windsurfing in Tassie (Marrawah) from 14 - 21 decembre this summer?

Ral Inn (Tony): I hope your wife is enjoying Tuscany. This week the weather was not so good, bur the weekend will be better (not for wind). We live in Ravenna on the Adriatic Sea near Rimini and Bologna.

She 's in venice tonight or was that last night.

Bologna is that as in Spagetti Bologna-ese.

If you are around at christmas, look us up. we will be doing a bit of gear hire around Torquay and then running a Clinic/ holiday/fun
week from 26th-30th dec at Sandy point, the other side of Melbourne.
