Does anyone know of a way to extract the plug that is fitted inside the boom arms just beyond where the tailpiece slides in?

I haven't done it, but I'd imagine that if you undid the four allen screws that hold the boom arms onto the head then you could poke something stiff into the hole and push the plug out.

For those with dirty minds it would have to be at least a metre long.

Grind some charcoal real fine, add some sulfur and potassium nitrate.

drill a hole in the middle of boom, fill with mixture.
Light the blue touch paper.
STAND WELL BACK!!!!!!!

Have done it. Get those fiberglass rods that hold up your 2-man dome tent and use them to push out the 2 plugs from the back-end of the boom arms (strong yet bendy)....after you have first unscrewed the head of course. Clean the pipes out with a chux covered in wd40 dragged through with a bit of cord. Put some a.c. tape around the plugs and re-insert. Waterproof!

Oh, I forgot to mention that it is a carbon boom so I'm not taking the head off. Otherwise it would be easy.

I use a length of 10-12 mm dowel,
get a long chipboard screw cut off the thread
drill small hole and screw the blunt of the threaded bit into the end of the dowel about 25mm make sure its sniceantite
then use as a corkscrew pushing while screwing into the plug a few turns and pull it out.
to reuse silicone the hole and push it back in

Shane,
Do as Ducati said but before poking a hole in a plug that you can't get out try pushing it in a bit further, that will confirm whether or not it will move and also break the seal.

Why do you want to remove them anyway?
Have you got water in the boom?
