Hi guys

Recently moved to Melbourne SE, and I'm hoping to find some nice flat shallow water to practice a few carve-gybes . From reading the forum, Inverloch looks like a great place to go. Does anyone have any info on which wind directions are suitable to find a bit of flat water there, and would you launch from different spots depending on the wind direction?

Thanks in advance

Rick

Just back from spending 2 weeks at Inverloch, On SW park your car at the Angling club nice and grassy for rigging, thier is a sand bar that offers great speed sailing, not as long as shallow inlet but still great for gybing. SE is worth the trip to, best to park on large grass area near pier. An E can be a bit tight depending on the tide. My favorite is S u park at pier or angling club and get the longest run,u can sail parrelel in front of entrance where the wind is stronger if u like. Forget N,NW,NE. also the seabreeze dosn't get as strong thier as Port Phillip bay so best wait untill a SW front is forcast, or a SE which can realy blow at Invy. Hope this helps.

Thanks Jman, that's exactly the sort of info I was looking for.

When you say tight in an E depending on tide, what exactly do you mean? - just asking cos it looks like the might be an Easterly on Sunday. High tide is early afternoon on sunday btw.

The sand bar between the channels runs E to W so on a dead easterly wind u are crossing right over the bar to get a good run, over the years since Iv'e been going there the sand bar has built up so that on high tide there is probably only maybe 60 cm of depth. But thats probably ok for your gybing practice. If it goes a bit SE it will be no problems.

Hey Red

Going great thanks - unfortunately only managaed to get out a couple of times so far due to one thing or another, but have had a blast when I've been out Board feels beautiful when up and running. As I said though, really need to get those carve-gybes happening - I was able to get away with big lazy tacks on my old barge so gybing is the one basic skill I'm particularly rubbish at. Hopefully a couple of good sessions in the right conditions will bring me up to speed.

So have beaten your GPS record yet ?! I'm sure you've been out there rippin it up over the last few weekend...

Thanks again Jman - fingers crossed for a bit of SE then! Just noticed you're based in Berwick - same as me. where do you tend to do most of your sailing?

Believe or not there are a few other windsurfers in Berwick I know of, for a seabreeze S SW I go to Bon beach, William St car park directly opposite Bon beach station, good bunch of guys there and good rigging area. I go straight down Thompsons Rd turn right when u get to beach cross over Patterson R and u are nearly there. If it is a W Sw I like to go to Mt Matha car park before the shops.
