The wife let me off the hook to go to Inverloch for the day yesterday. Came back sore and tired but with a grin from ear to ear and no equipment breakages for once. Yahoo.
It was blowing a measured 20 kts SW and once the sand dome was gone around lunch time it was a buzz. Long runs(400 mtrs) planing and in the straps. Had my a 5.5 mtr sail up on my Mistral 144 ltr board.
The board was obviously too big for the conditions but cannot afford anything smaller. When you hit a wave the board would flick around. Do not know whether that is lack of Mast foot pressure or my stance? Can anyone assist?

Most where on 90 - 110 ltr boards. Could not work out why more people where not out on the water. Perhaps it was the fact that the temperature was around 18 and water temp was about 12. Are Vic w/s a pack of whimps or what???

Definitely board too big for that wind strength.

Everyone was sailing at Sandy Point...!

Old Salty - Was there (front of Angling club house) also on Sunday from about 1pm- onwards (until I cracked the front of my board) riding a 126 litre and 6m Sail. Little underpowered at times, especially as the day progressed. Water/air temp felt quite warm to me... certainly not cold. Inverloch's not bad on a decent SW.

Hey EJMACK

I was down the bottom end of the inlet near Caravan Park. I could see you up the other end. From what I could see you where flying. The sail was catching the sun every time it twisted out at the top, so you where noticable. A guy down our end had a 6.4 mtr sail on a 90 ltr board and was going some. Bad luck about the damage.

Sandy Point is great to go to however I hate having to get off the water as the tide is coming in to save the car going underwater. Like to stay out on the water until I am stuffed. Like Sunday, the muscles in my left arm gave way late afternoon so I was useless when it was the leading hand. The joys of getting old.

Salty.... have had a few good memorable days at Inverloch. We (wife & I) regularly drive down to Inverloch on the weekend or days off if the conditions look ok. On Sunday we turned up quite early, was blowing 20+ knots and decided to drive over to Sandy Point to watch the guys there for a bit... then back to Inverloch for a sail. Not knowing Sandy Point too well I was wondering what happens when the tide comes up, doesn't seem to be much room for vehicles at high tide.

Generally the wife comes with me to Inverloch also and enjoys the coffee from the Bakery whilst I hit the water. The township is a little more sophisticated for her rather than the 2 shops at Sandy Point.
With Sandy Point you have 4 choices when the tide changes.
1) Drop your gear off and park your car in the car park to the right just before you turn onto the beach - 500 mtr walk back to your gear.
2) See if you can get your car high enough up the sand dunes above the high tide mark and wait for the tide to go down again
3) Move your car off the beach back to the car park when the tide is changing
4) Watch your car get swamped with water as you curve gibe past it
