I had the same problem when I moved to WA but on Port tack. Imagine what that was like. My cure was - a big deep breath and practise. Start with the small ones and build up slowly.

Alternatively, you could sail on a Port Tack beach in a NW. Such a place does exist.

Yep know the feeling well, I can get in the air fine, it's the landing that's the problem.
The first time I did a big reverse tack jump, in the late 1980s, I put myself on crutches for 2 weeks. All the controls are back to front, went into a power dive and landed flat.

I'm still not proficient, just don't get enough practice. I try and jump backs of waves whenever the wind is strong enough, that helps a bit.

Trouble is it's also the tack you're on when trying to get air off the lip, it would be really nice to get it nailed!

I can jump on port...I'm frightened and weak when presented with a ramp on starboard. I assume that if I practice enough, I will get better. Forcing the practice is the issue.

Several years ago I was in Maui for a few weeks, launching on starboard so I had no choice but to get air going out over waves. It was much easier after ten days in a row. Duh.

Same thing here. Although I have become more comfortable doing small hops on the river with a little practice (after someone insisted.. thankyou leech) , never getting the height or control I have on my other tack, but certainly improving!

I should be trying more things on my 'bad side' now I think of it.
