i'm ok on the green stuff but getting punished by the whitewater.

lately when i hit the foam, my jumps end up going upwind followed by either, a fall in or loss of power ------ then creamed by the next wave.

what am i doing wrong???? got any tips for the bubbly stuff

You been sailing waves in dead-onshore again? You know that's not gonna work cos you wanna hit the waves square-on but that also means luffing something chronic.

If Racy has it wrong, and your problem is with sideshore winds. You have to lift the nose a bit earlier to get it over the foam, and also push off earlier, cause the white water will cause spin out if you push with fin in it, sending you upwind.

As the others have said and also keep the weight centred more over the board. Push down with your back foot (which you achieve by having your weight more over the board) rather than sideways against the fin, as the fin will not hold in the bubbly stuff hence turning you into the wind.

Problem is you have less lateral resistance, due to all that air in the water. Thus the fin slips downwind, causing you to round up without even knowing it....and of course it only takes 0.2 sec to cross the whitewater so by the time it has happened it is too late to correct much.

Practice landing waaayyyy downind, like 110-130deg, on chophops.... by pulling your back leg up under your bum and pushing front leg downwind.
Once you can take off a little upwind, and turn it all downwind for the landing in a short little chophop, then apply it to your jumps off whitewater.
Howzat? works for me anyway

hold your line, think of it as a wave, jump it like a wave egpull your back foot in as you start to go over.

JESUS fkin christ who pulls there back foot in on a wave as they start going over. you don't do that till you are inthe air..

White water.. you got to grit your teeth. keep your weight right over the board. pop your nose up and keep your sail forward. and put some effort in.

I think Jesus was referring to his forward loop which he does naturally whenever he jumps.

How come the white wash always pops you higher than you want to go?

My back leg was killing after a days sailing at Gerro last week, landing all those 20ft jumps that i'm sure I was doing.

suggest for smaller whitwater you point everything downwind before, during and after and try and land going downwind. depends on the height of the white water though, if its big, 'wheelstand' it up and over and try not to lose the sail as you go over the top. if its too big and just broken try and veer away

other wise if you are getting a bit of height on the jump try a pushy. when jumping point the board straight up into the sky or slightly upwind, look over your left hand shoulder, rotate your upper body, board and boom to the left and watch the world come back around to you. I still cant land and sail away, not enough height and rotation I think.
