Hey guys,

I’m James, 14yrs old, 65kgs, 6ft 1" and I live in Perth - south the river. Been windsurfing for about half a year now and I’m loving it. I sail with my Dad; we've learnt together from word go. With my current rig (Simmer Style Onshore 3.7) and board (Tiga 285 - which was recently bought from these forums) I am able to plane comfortably, tack well, but working on gybes as they are still a maneuver which involves getting wet for me :) I can beach start and getting the water starting going. foot straps arn't in my mind yet. maybe when i start using a larger sail.

So i just wanted to introduce myself to you guys, hope to receive lots of help and share plenty of windsurfing stories.

Looking forward to heading out on tuesday, looks like a nice 25kts? Most of the time i sail at applecross.

cya!
James

All you really need is to be able to waterstart, especially if you surf, start in small gentle waves, (stay away from crashing shorebreaks, they can break masts). All you have to do is talk your Dad into it.

Hi Edge, welcome aboard, glad to hear you like windsurfing, don't take anything I say seriously here, I like to clown around a lot, so anything written by Hardie is to be taken as a joke Some people haven't got this yet so I'm spelling it out for a Newbie

Hardie likes to lure young boys into his car with shiny new windsurfing gear. I know cos I'm living proof of that

During summer didn't think we had much else!!!!

But the 3rd break down here on a 1.5m swell (depending on tide and swell direction gives a knee to waist high wave) is ideal for getting into the waves. No shorebreak, plenty of flat water inside to practise gybes and get out of the way of big sets. Big gap in the reef to sail thru, the gap in the reef starts to close out about head high, any smaller there's always a clear path back out.

Nar all jokes aside, you will meet some awsome people on this forum. Hardie and decrep are just a couple of some cool dudes. They have probably close to 50 years experience combined in windsurfing!? They are old enough to hang out with my grandparents at the local RSL!? Hehe

great to see some windsurfers out my age. Today was a bit of a bummer with my small sail, but got the gybes smooth. Seems i picked the best part of the day rain wise, but not wind wise.... forcast got me pumped up too.. didn't meet upto it.

Hi Edge, were you sailing in the ski area on Canning river on Saturday morning? I saw a young fella and his dad with a rig matching your description there, thought it might have been you - not a lot of wind tho :)

racycoot - yes that was me, not a lot of wind at all, but it was the boards maiden, had to be done, dad and i explored a bit of the river, was all very slow going but good practice with light wind tacking. wind was just coming up as we got beaten off that section by some marine safety blokes.

Ha ha! If it's not them it's the damn water police. Don't think I've been on the river (in the boat) without getting pulled up for something - always trivial. Bastards.
