Am in Melbourne late March for a fortnight for work. Where's the best place to try and get a weekends windsurfing in including kit hire? Have checked out RPS and SHQ on line but have heard that they're not too geared up for hire - i.e. you can't rent bigger than a 6.0m etc. Is this the case? Do you need paperwork to show you can sail or are they alright? Should I make the trek to Sandy Point or stay in the bay? Any advice greatfully received. Not looking for waves just some nice blasting in the sunshine to kill the UK winter blues (and p**s my mates at home off!)

Jon.

Try emailing RPS or SHQ for gear hire. RPS have a good range of second hand gear for sale that they might hire out, or some demo stuff.
If you can get to Sandy Pt when it's blowing and when the tide allows, you should have an absolute hoot. Something that will really piss off you mates. But it's about 5hr return trip and a real bummer if it's not working. Unless Windguru or the Bureau of Meterology website www.bom.gov.au predicts wind, beter to stay in the bay, unless you want to go fishing instead.

get onto RAL INN on this forum. he is building up some hire gear it seems. he runs week getaways at Sandy point so should have some idea of what to expect.

I know this is a bit far away for you, but just for your information in case you ever head up this way as most tourists tend to do (though I know you are not a tourist), a store called SURF FX here on the Gold Coast in Queensland has now started to hire out windsurfing equipment that is of good condition and fairly current (the store used to be called WIND FX). I reckon this is great news that the gear is now available for hire once again!! It's been a long time since people could hire gear on the GC

Cheers
