I have just started with kitesurfing and have nearly finished my first 8 lessons. Yeah it is great fun!

I was wondering if anybody can tell me from her/his owen experience if it is worth buying a new kite (improved kites and safety aspects) or would it be better to buy a second hand kite (crashing aspect) and buy a new one once my skills have improoved? My instructor recommended to buy a new kite and a secondhand board but I am not sure if that is the way to go. I look forward to hearing from your experinece and suggestions!

From my experience with kitesurfing (none), my suggestion would be to post this question in the kite forum if you want any useful answers.

anything 2006 is good-you will lose a lot of money buying new. you probably dont know what you want and if you buy a second hand one, half way through the season you can sell it for the type you want.
i had a second hand 9 then added a SH 12 then sold both and have new ones this year. as long as you get 2005+ your laughing-2007 stuff will lose you a lot of money
on the other hand if you are loaded like many people thanks to the resources boom get the shiniest most expensive kite you can

kitecrazzy will give you good advice, and if you're very lucky poor relative may just make some sense. But no body else here will.

Laurie please put this poor lost kiter out of his misery and shift this post to it's appropriate forum!
