In my neck of the woods (Long Island, New York) a number of strictly highwind types have picked up Konas to see if they can enjoy a big board on the plane. The verdict is still out with them (they're learning to jibe and generally rip with them) but I found this clip depicting the big boards being put through some paces

I myself don't own a Kona (I have an ancient Superlight) but I admire them. Took one for a spin in Aruba...I felt like I was yachting. I'd get one except that my first priority is a 70-something liter freestyle wave board (I'm thinking Fanatic or JP).

Anyhow I haven't seen much longboard video action so I'm sharing.

Hey Mike,

on the Kona forum someone was hinting that my freestyle would not be the same on a Kona.

He's wrong, most moves will be the same (I have ridden closet doors before). So am trying to get my hands on a demo board in my own neck of the woods (which is not Sydney unfortunately these days).

Will let you know & post.

The Kona board is very similar to the One Design in terms of freestyle. It may possibly be a little bit harder on the rail, but it's more stable laterally. Being shorter, it turns faster on the rail.

The fully battened rig would be harder in some ways, easier in others - as a guess, it'd be slightly harder to do some old-style tricks but easier to do some new-style ones like the nifty rig-laydowns they do on Gos and Starts.

I may be able to get some Kona and One Design freestyle vids taken this Saturday.

Chris, how did you fare with them's vids?

In general, just post any vids of freestyle, Konas or others. Preferably, send vids from you stylin' at Balmoral Beach, but this suggestion is only a nice-to-have...

Meanwhile, here's my take of freestyle at Balmoral:

It's not as wide as Superlight, so not quite as forgiving as that wonderful old longboard for freestyle, but I managed some of the basics (not railriding, though) when I rode one in Aruba.
