The January round of the KA Sail SA Summer of Speed will be held on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th of January at the Spit, Lake George, Beachport.

Registration and briefing will be at 12am and close of sailing at 5pm with recording of GPS screen readouts by 5.15pm.

This event is scheduled to be both a ‘slalom marathon’ and general speed sailing, however we will wait to see the conditions on the day to determine the course.

You dont have to compete, just come and join us.
Most of us camp out on the spit but you can stay in the town. Hopefully on Saturday night we will have Beer and a BBQ .

Cheers,
Chris

Here is a google map of the spit at Lake George if any one has not been there before. Lets hope we get a day like this one.

www.google.com.au:443/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&t=h&om=0&ll=-37.411585,139.978373&spn=0.015851,0.028582&z=15

It looks like most of us will be camping out on the spit but there is always Beachport if camping isnt your thing.

I can confirm that the Onboard Speed Daemons and Onboard Master Blasters will be having a BBQ & Beers on the Saturday night thanks to Pete and everyone is welcome.

If anyone wants some more info please message me.

cheers,
Chris

The January round of the KA Sail SA Summer of Speed will be held on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th January at Lake George, Beachport SA. Registration and briefing will be at 12pm on the Saturday and close of sailing at 5pm on Sunday with recording of GPS screen readouts by 5.15pm, followed by back-slapping and tall-tales over some responsibly consumed beverages. This event is scheduled to be GPS speed 'free-sailing' however we will wait to see the conditions on each day to determine the format (we might throw in some fun slalom races or a marathon if people are keen). If you don't sail with a GPS, you are free to still participate in the event and enjoy the social aspect of the weekend and be in the running for the end of series prize draw. The one-off series entry fee is $40 and this covers competitor packs and boat expenses. You will also need to be a current member of Windsurfing SA or affiliate, and a link is provided here <http://www.windsurfing.org/files/SA_MSHIP.pdf>; for the application form. Please bring correct money with you for both the entry fee and Windsurfing SA membership fee as change will be limited. At this time of year, Lake George can have reliable sea breezes reaching 25-30 knots, and the advantage of sailing from the spit means we can enjoy clear sailing in almost any wind direction (refer attached image). It is easy to get to, just follow the main street of Beachport to the north. Bitumen becomes dirt, dirt becomes a track, the track has a gate, and then it all becomes a bit bumpy but you can make it through in a 2wd car comfortably - just take your time. Most sailors will most likely camp overnight at the spit. It has great camping spots with basic facilities (toilet), but no showers or running water so you will need to bring all your own supplies. The other option is to stay in Beachport and drive out each day (approx 30 minute drive).
