Has anyoune sailed the lake at Beachport (S.A) in the last couple of weeks/months???

Firstly, is there enough water? And, is the water clean? (last time we went the water was very greenish, with foam-icebergs floating past!!)

Heading over tonight, if anyone has any info, it'd be appreciated.

Taking family for the weekend, might be able to squeeze gear in!!

G'day Guys,

A friend of mine was down at Lake George two weeks ago. It is along walk to the water at the moment. Lets hope it is a wet winter to help top up the lake. There should be some good wind down there late tomorrow arvo.

If I was you I would go to Robe and sail at third ramp. Nice clean blue water and good jumping.

Thanks dzub,

I'm only geared up for flat-water (rig & skill level), but thanks for the info. Did your mate get much of a run? I'm told that on a good day you can get about a 7km stretch.

Hello Sailhack,

He still had a good time and the sailing is really good down there, you just have to be prepared to walk. Sail in the big lake as it is much deeper and will get some longer runs. Have fun

Not sure about a 7km stretch, but a very long run anyways....
Do you have a 4wd? the track there is passable by conventional vehicle, just have to take it slow, trust me I know :(
the beauty of Lake George is the spit, think if its a SW and 25knts, you can sail either side of the spit, one side will be choppy, but great sailing, the other will be the same wind, but sailing on a mill pond, easily the best sailing I have ever experienced.

There used to be a weed bed that ran along the eastern side of the spit that made it even better, or encouraged those conditions. A few years ago I was sailing on the eastern side, 20 knts, absolutely no chatter, just a whistling fin - perfect!

Got home from B'port today and hit the local spot...had a crack at small waves for the first time...SENSATIONAL!!!

Beachport was great but no wind meant a couple of rounds of golf and time at the beach with the kids.

BTW, The B'port pub had the coldest 'Coopers' on tap i've ever had (and I've had plenty!)

Couldn't get to 'the spit' from B'port side, (hi-ace van), nearly rolled it trying though!! Mate & myself still keen to sail 'the lake', next time we'll take a 4WD.
