Hi, I'm a beginner windsurfer from the lakes district in the US, just wondering what sort of board you could recommend....

Nah, just kidding. I am a beginner/intermediate living on the Gold Coast and I'm wondering if anyone ever sails in any of the numerous lakes on offer? They look so inviting, no chop, no giant cruisers with myopic captains to run you down (I windsurf off Hollywell), no 6 knot tides and probably shallow enough to stand up in. I feel I could be landing my gybes in a day or so if I could only find a really good, beginner-friendly lake.

Does anyone know of any that don't have sharks patrolling them? I suppose water quality would be an issue too.

This one looks particularly appealing, except for its proximity to the river (bities):

Oh yeah, I found this, kinda cool: http://www.howtoons.com/toon/the-beaufort-scale/

P.S. Thanks haircut for my first windsurf lesson about a year ago. I'm hooked.

hi michael,

i am pretty sure i met you last summer at the train. i remember cause your last name is the same as the guy that shapes nsx sailboards.

anyways, i don't know the spot your refering to but you may find that it's a liitle gusty. sometomes you need a good stratch of water for the wind to touch down and sort itself out.

see you at the train again in summer most likely.

Have deleted My bads
I cocked up the name of the person I was thinking about.

Wasn't actually thinking along the "Swifty" lines, just stuffed up remembering the name of the controversial Dr Nitschke

Apologies Michael

Back to the train it is then.

Elmo - yeah I get "Dr Death" at work. Let me know if you ever want an easy way out

If anyone on the coast is thinking of selling a reasonably late model board around 130 litres but hasn't advertised it yet I'm looking for one. All I've seen is this one all the way over in WA: www.seabreeze.com.au/Members/Classifieds/Gear/2006-RRD-Avantride-140-140-litres.aspx?id=yn0p&search=EjQ0DoWvNYhPy5CM%2fwV30A%3d%3d

the Train is a great spot for learners. when at lowtide, it makes it easy with the sandbars to stop and turn around to sail back, also great for a rest break.

as far as lakes go, Hinze Dam would have been a maybe, before they closed access off to it. a drive down south to lennox head, theres a tea tree lake there thats pretty cool. even currumbin creek gets the odd learner in the right wind conditions.

tea tree lake is an awesome spot to sail. The water is black so it's always warm as soon as the sun comes out plus the amount of tea tree oil in the water is really good for your hair Which would be really cool if I had any
