Hey, I am prolly heading up to lancelin this weekend with a mate of mine who kitesurfs... looking at the graph it looks like it should be alright. I have never sailed up there before, and was wondering if there was anything i should know about the place. and if anyone else was going to head up???

Cheers

Filthy Baby,

It's shallow in places, just follow the usual rules that if the seaweed is breaking the water surface, it's rocky reef underneath, so keep clear, other than that, it's one of the best places around, flat water slalom or waves

Enjoy

Yeah i should be heading up there for the weekend either friday or saturday if the forecast turns out as good as it looks! It's usually a fairly easy spot to sail but seems to be a bit shallower early on in the season. As you go out through the lagoon for the first hundred metres or so it super shallow with lots of limestone/sand bank/weed reef. You can hit your fin on this pretty easy and it'll throw you off so you've gotta take it slow. After you get a long waveride and end up downwind there is a pretty nasty reef section just on the inside of the break. It's about 15 metres long but fairly easy to see and avoid. Other than that it's pretty cruisy, maybe first few times head out slightly downwind of the break rather than the middle if your not confident getting hit by the big sets, but once you get the hang of it there pretty easy to avoid. Hopefully i'll see ya out there, i'll probably be on a red ezzy 4.7.
