Hi All,

Wondering what the go was here. I currently have one 6 metre sail and appropriate SDM 430 in length. I'm looking at a 7.5 metre sail for my next purchase and would like to get a skinny mast, 460 in length to go with that. Can the 460 RDM be used on the 6 metre? If not, why? I understand the bend characteristics of the 460 would be different than a 430 but if a sail has a adjustable luff length is it safe to assume it would ok to use? According to the specs, in the same sail range, a 6.5 rigs with a 460 mast. Cheers

Well first thing is it will be on the lower (stiffer) section of mast so it will be a bit less twisty. It could work but how much less than ideal it is will vary between sails and masts of different manufacture.

My 6.1 Simmer Vision rigs on a 430, but with a lot of extension. I reckon it would go well on a 460 with only about 5-8cm of mast protrusion at top..... as I said some other brands, who knows.

What is the luff on your 6.0?

Can you keep the old mast or do you have to trade it in for the $$$$$

Mark,

I feel like a bit of a nuff, nuff actually. I just checked the sail manufacturers site and realised the second suggested mast size is in fact a 460.

Anyway, the luff length is 454cm on the 6m and 494cm on the sail I am currently looking at buying. I'd rather just use RDM's if possible and just one for the time being would be even better.

Cheers
