Hi Everyone

I'm just getting back on board and had a few questions. Way back, when I used to race, a ban was introduced on the main body of Sydney Harbour. Does this still stand and what area does it cover?

The other question concerns PFD's. If I'm out cruising on my board, am I required to wear a lifejacket? What about racing?

Hi Much of Sydney harbour is banned to windsurfers.

Waterways are the rule makers and here is an extract from their web site.

Exempted from carrying safety equipment when within 400m of the nearest shore. if the sailboarder or kite surfer is not within 400m of the nearest shore, he/she must wear a lifejacket type 2 or 3.

I have a hard copy document from waterways showing restricted areas, I can't find it on their current web site. Maybe they have relaxed the rules.

Is the legislation state-specific?

What's the ruling for WA?

I read about this somewhere, can't recall where... I think there are limitation on how far we can sail from shore (say 300 m???), passed that we need to wear PFD2+ life jackets and carry flares... No sailing to Rotto

Hi

found it, Sydney Harbour.

www.rms.nsw.gov.au/maritime/index.html

the yellow represents the dioxins in Sydney harbour, little hard to see when sailing.
