Hi There

Looking at getting a second board for 10 to 15 knot days on the Swan and maybe Saftey Bay. I currently use a Carve 99 with 4.50 to 6.0 sails for 20+ Days. To increase My TOW I was looking to purchase a 140 + board with 7.5M + sails to get planning on those days. Is the formula gear fragile ?? or better off going for a GO or similar> basically to improve my skills as I am still at a intermediate level.

Do any of the formaula crew train regulary on the Swan??

A formula board is not the best option for a 7.5m sail, and yes they are more fragile. Depending on your weight I'd be looking at a free ride board around 130L, Perhaps a bigger Carve or a JP X Cite Ride.

Have a look at the April issue of Boards, they review all the boards around 6- 65cm or something like that which makes them about 100 - 130L. The early planing and the big sail carrying ability of many will blow you away.... for eg a JP SuperX 106 will carry a 7.5 easily so you can have a board which planes in 12kn but at least it still turns and you can jump it etc.
