Great job John,
It was great to see Reg explaining board design. Very entertaining
Good editing and very brave to put yourself in front of the camera. Interviewing is a pretty tough art.
Can't wait for the next one.

Overall fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To be more critical, if wanted to get picked up by Commercials, a bit faster paced editing would help, cutting quicker to action shots. Interviews just focussed on interviewee, As he she answers cut to action shot of the, answer action shot etc.

The windsurfing bits were good. Equipment discussion could be more technical and detailed. One Windsurfing Identity per show would be enough, or if more identities, much faster paced editing with more action shots, and just short snappy edited answers.

Please don't take offence at critical comments, evryone is going to be prety positive about it, critical but constructive critism is meant to help, brilliant what you have done. Who do we ring and what is telephone no.?

Great potential in the show, well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And don't forget a humour section in a future show, not just hotshots, but how imbeciles sail as well

And a beginners tips section, and a difficult manouvres section, Skills and Tips?

As a country boy I'm waiting for my family to tape it so I'll get all six in a coupla months.

Not having seen it but I agree with hardie's tips. In addition to his, any chance you can get Sonia Vinci and Rebecca Twigly on it doing errrr anything at all is fine, on the beach

Pls pls pls make sure the web one is downloadable not like that youtube crap. I'm still on slowband, but I use GetRight so I can download 30-40meg for a half hour show (?) over a few nights in pieces and still end up with a movie.

I thought it was great, and agree with the critical comments above.

One thought, if you are going to give away particular locations you might as well let everyone know roughly where it is.
i.e. Gearies = Mandurah etc.
I know everyone wants to protect their spot, but lets face it what spot is secret around Perth anyway.

Girlfriend and i watched the show and we both enjoyed it and she is not a windsurfer.

I agree with the geography part, a little more direction as to where exactly it is would be good.
I didnt like the music at all, a bit too hardcore for a monday night!
Also probably not a good idea to carry out an interview next to the road.
Maybe a section showing how to do some of the moves that your guests are good at/known for.
But will be staying tuned next week for the next exciting edition.

Well I thought it was really great, ignore any negative feedback you get on this forum.

I think everyone can agree it takes great effort, skill and determination to make something like this happen and I applaud your efforts.Brilliant!!

I look forward to the next show and am recording the whole series so I can rewind and laugh at Professor Reg.

Great Work!

I only saw the preview and it looks great.

If you want broad appeal with enough specifics for the genuine sailors, take a leaf out of the SBS show 'Top Gear'. A bit of comedy, some weekly gimics (like the cool wall, or speed tests and challenges) and segments on peripheral gear (like cool windsurfing vehicles, accommodation, accessories) and you'll have the sponsors lining up!

Bloody good stuff John. You're going to scare the other producers on Chanel 31 with your professional approach. You picked a great Gearies day too. When was that-I reckon I missed that one if it was last winter.

Cheers, Jens

Congratulations on the show.

Here is some feedback:

-Get rid of the retro siren sound at the beginning when "WINDSURFING" appears.

-Music is way too grundgey, needs to be more upbeat and cheerful.

-Interview locations need to be selected with more care- away from traffic and sheltered from wind.

-A location map would be helpful.

-Show beginners when discussing beginners, not kitesurfers. More footage of beginners will help to make the programme accessable to the mainstream audience, which has to be a good thing for our sport.

Good luck.

A segment on kiddie's windsurfing would be good too. safety has about 12 kids there on a weekend, and if you advertised a shoot, you might get more kids show up, this might encourage more youngens and their parents to get into the sport.

John, well done good material covered. How come those kites got in there
Not sure about backing music, but copy write maybe restricting you there.
Consider when interviewing that you have some action in back ground, for instance, have the guys in foreground and the sailing in background. Looking at house/cars and swinging away to see action could be changed, to action shots in background. Just a thought. Would allow you a bit more time allocation for additional action shots.
Reg's segment great. His bloody shirt was Get him a flash red one next time
But was impressed for you first up go

Can anybody explain to me why is it good idea to get more people into the sport?

That I don't get. Good for the shops for sure but I can't really see the benefit for regular sailors.

Do we really need more people on the water? Just have a look at some recent posts on the forums, people not knowing the rules etc.
We seem to be having problems fitting into the existing spots with kiters and not to get in each others way. So influx of beginers is supposed to make it all better

Enough said!

BTW: Congratulations John, I thought the show was well done!

well, personally I prefer to sail where there are other people, makes me feel safer for some reason. (someone might notice me swimming in after my gear got trashed for instance)

And I dont mind saying gooday in the carpark later

but thats just me

Well done John,

Anyone who puts in the personal time and effort for the enjoyment of the public who truly enjoys his / her hobbie is nothing short of a bloody top effort.

You will tune your show by reading all the constructive feedback at your own pace, in no time you will have a very slick show with plenty of people wanting to give you a hand and be in front of the camera.

I agree with most of the comments previously mentioned and by the way, if there are no newbies around then the shops wont stay open just because you want to sail, Shops need income and are not a charity.

Share the water, sail smart and if someone is doing somthing wrong all the time and a seasoned sailor can see what he/she is doing wrong, break the ice by asking if the guy needs a hand..... Any newbie who takes offence will be berrated off the water by the people who know better, newbies need that advise, they will crawl back soon enough when they realise that Perth is a small town and the bloke who tried to help you will more than likely be right next to you rigging up in the car park next time you go for a sail.

Well done and keep it going.

Cheers GT

Great show, good footage, I liked the music, good interviews but agree that wind noise during interviews makes it sound a bit like my home videos. Maybe Ben Severne could talk on sail design instead of Reg ?

Hi Guys

Good feedback.

I'll respond but try to be nice and point out some of the pitfalls faced. John is to nice to explain

Have you travelled 3.1/2 hours, been threatened with having yor tires slashed if you give a location away, have the Camera fail and come away with nothing as per the weekend just gone. If the location is given it's a problem, if it's not it's a problem. It takes Balls to make a call to divulge any spot any where.

Music. You cannot use any Music. You have to get permission or pay. John has tried to use local talent.

Interviews. Take into account sunlight and wind direction equals sound and picture quality. You have to work with the elements supplied.

You only get 26 minutes. There another five programs to follow covering various things mentioned. They are already produced and just get better.

Try and find a funny guy who will work in front of a Camera that windsurfs !!

Nice work John.

Shame no one from the industry or WWA have commented

Just a quick comment on the music- Of course it is preferable to use local musicians and there are AMCOS restrictions when it comes to broadcasting recordings, but Perth has a healthy music scene and there is a lot of much better local music available that would have been more suitable for the programme.

Good stuff !!! I enjoyed the show and have no criticisms at all -- I think the effort put in by the crew deserves a beer or two. I assume the rest of the series has been shot so anything learnt will be put to use if someone gives them another go later.

I just wish I knew how to tune the 50 inch plasma to Access 31 instead of having to watch on the snowy old set

looking forward to the download so I can watch it over here in Bris!

as a person who sails some lonely spots and is thrilled when there actually IS another sailor out with me, I guess I don't really "get" the overcrowding issue, though I have sailed corro and lancelin on busy days and I understand the frustrated feeling local sailors have.

what's always mystified me is the fact that the west coast, being so damn huge, must have hundreds of other great spots just waiting to be found. I'm sure there are lots of those "secret" spots that I or the tourists will never know about, enjoyed by the select local few, but the fact that they ARE secret simply ADDS to the crowding at the places that AREN'T.

so I can sure understand John's point by not fully disclosing the locations, as it's hard to peer through a viewfinder with a black eye, but what a shame the world has become what it has where we feel we deliberately need to hide good things from other people.

Monday nights are the bee's knees now.

You need to compare yourself with something like Crusin. They are mainly dealing with static images, with people who like to show off their cars, and have been doing it for years. You are dealing with quick short action, with people who don't want to advertise their spots, and you have only just started. You came out first time and came up to spec as far as I am concerned.

Oh, and hello to Reg

I agree with goldy68- just think of the great feeling you have when you find a spot you really enjoy- think of all the strangers you could turn into mates when they get to enjoy it too! You know-Everyone was a begginer once, it's just easy to forget what that was like! We need all the encouragement we can get!
Didn't manage to catch the show the first time round- but looking forward to the re-run.
thanks for the effort john!
