Bugger, when I read the title I thought one was going in on Sydney's Northern Beaches. Just goes to show what wishful thinking can do to your comprehension.

This station is located near fishermans beach and is good for reading the wind pretty close to the beach. Its pretty good at reading the wind in NW-E direction and southerly. Long reef golf course does affect the readings from a SE direction so readings may be a bit lower.

Enjoy .. Lozza

I just spotted the new graph too, good onya Laurie.
So, just down the road from home and nearly next door to the shop. It will be great for summer.
Who is going to take a guess on which building its on???

The takeaway shop on the corner of Pittwater Road and Anzac Ave?

Interesting to look at. It was blowing a gale all day in Hornsby but not too much wind down there.

This is great news. Thanks to everyone involved.

It's been renamed to "South Narrabeen" to (perhaps) avoid further confusion!

Ok,

I will swap you 10 acres of Narrambeen for 10 acres at Narrabeen.

You will have to find about 20 million dollars for your end of the deal and I'll probably have to scratch together a couple of hundred thousand.

Sth Narra is a better spot. Less wind interference.
Will be very interesting to see how the readings compare to whats on the water this season.
Thanks again Laurie.

HI Laurie,

Unfortunately I think that name change makes for more confusion as South Narrabeen is 2kms north of where the wind guage actually is. 2km doesn't seem much but the difference in wind from the collaroy basin area to south narrabeen is often pretty big particularly on lighter nor-easters.

The most common name for the Brownwater/Fishermans beach area is Collaroy Basin which would make more sense and be more accurate.

Apart from that I'm stoked to have readouts coming in from down the end of the street. Means I don't even have to waste time walking to the street to see if the wind is in. Thanks for making life easier Laurie.

Sam.

I think Sam is referring to the millions of calls they must get on a typical summers days... some along the lines of: "What's the wind like up your way?"

Laurie,

Is the wind gauge managed by Seabreeze or is it a BOM wind gauge?

(kiter popping in here) The windguage was created by a conglomerate of kiters on the northern beaches. who says we are all selfish eh... we give the data direct to laurie because we're nice. :)

Great work peanuticus - but I think Collaroy basin is the go...never heard of Sth Narra

(PS. I think that kiter/poley thing is peculiar to WA......given they're all a bit peculiar over there [}:)] )

there is a reason not to use the 'exact' location for the graph, the actual location cannot sustain more than a handful of kites safely and there have been numerous accidents involving trees, houses and handgliders etc, its not a safe place to learn. however Narrabeen is a much safer place hence choosing that. anyway, as long as 'you' know where it is it should not really matter.

thanks for the thanks, I may look at trying to upset the locals at palmy and get one setup there, if there is interest in people making the small investment and there are enough then it can be so. :)

Whats sort of equipment do you use? I setup a weather station for my place of employment. At this stage the information is only available on our intranet but from what I have seen it doesn't look too hard to make the information publicly available. The only problem is there is no water where it is. However the more weather stations we have around the place, the more accurate picture we could get of whats going on.

I think the Pittwater council is planning or doing work on the north side of the lake now. As windsurfers make use of the lake more than most other groups, it would be good to be able to work out what we need and want out of any changes.

Whenever I go there and its not windy, the place is deserted, especially during inclement weather. When the wind is blowing there are plenty of windsurfers there.
