Hi all,

Ok so I've moved in with my girlfriend in a flat and it's not that bad, BUT I now have a storage problem as the only place where I can put my gear is on the balcony that tends to get wet.

Would you guys have a solution to keep 1 245 cm board, 3 sails, 1 mast and 1 boom dry?

I've been trying Google with no success.

Many thanks!

Does your girlfriend mind getting wet? If you put her on the balcony and your gear on her side of the bed, I can guarantee you that the bed will never get wet.

Alas, I have no constructive comments for your problem, only smartaRRs ones. Sorry

I'd look at putting in some form of hanging system that kept your gear close to the roof.

I had a setup with a fixed loop for the nose of the board, and a pulley arrangement for the tail so that you poke the nose through the front loop, push the back of the board through the loop, then pull the string and the board gets elevated to the roof. If you then organise a cuphook for the bit of string you used to pull the board up with, then everything stays neat and out of the way.

Only problem is you'll have to drill a couple of holes with a masonry bit, and I purposely haven't talked about the sails 'cos that problem's too hard for me

We have a similar problem, so I also hang them under the roof of the verandah. Sails, booms and masts go on top of the boards, and the boards are tied up horizontally.
But during summer, all my stuff lives in the ute which has a locked hard lid.

Go buy yourself a van and put some whirly birds on the roof and a good alarm system and a bed in the back cause your gunna have issues with the GF if she dont sail

I'll be making a rack soon for my sail gear to store in my shed. I was just going to use 2 uprights, prob 70 x 35 mm pine or treated pine and drill and fit large dowl angled up at about 20 degrees. This should store 3 or 4 boards plus sails and masts. I guess if you did that you could just put a tarp over it all So long as your balcony is secure

I suggest you move, this time when you looking at new places you need to answer some important questions, 1st don't even walk inside if it doesn't have a garage, just turn around and drive off, 2nd can i walk home from the pub when tanked, if you have answered yes to these two questions you can go inside, then you need to know if you can see at least one of these three things from the one of the windows, the water, a flag up high or a big tree... anything else let you girlfriend worry about. i would strongly recomend not leaving your gear in your car, i did that once, about midnight it was driven off, didn't see the car or the gear ever again. and leaving a board outside in the heat and weather will kill it, and then you have to suck upto your girlfriend to let you buy new gear, good luck...

"BUT I now have a storage problem as the only place where I can put my gear is on the balcony that tends to get wet."

So the gear will get wet if you leave it on the balcony? I'm not sure about this, but...are you sure water is actually BAD for windsurfing gear?

I'd be more worried about sunlight...

...oops, it's past my bedtime! Sorry!

I was in the same boat as you up until a few weeks ago.

My solution was to store my most often used gear in the car, and the rest at my parents' place.

However, I just bought a house with 2 sheds, so I no longer have this problem :)
