OnWind: a new Performance section
The new part, and the reason for this post, is
Performance.
Track a session with the phone in your pocket or pouch and it works everything out on the phone, nothing uploaded:
- Speed results the GPS speedsurfing way: 2 s peak, best 10 s, 5 × 10 s, 100 m, 500 m, nautical mile, alpha 500.
- Gybes and tacks counted against the wind at that moment, and how much speed each turn kept.For foilers, a take-off funnel: attempts, near-flights, held flights, build-up time, touchdown recoveries, full stops and swims.
- A speed polar by angle off the wind, where your take-offs start, port against starboard, upwind ground made.
- Which sail, board and foil set-up (down to track position and shim) flies most in which wind, and a;
- Like-for-like comparison when only the board changed.Sessions can also come in from an Apple Watch, Garmin, Strava or COROS, via Health or a GPX/FIT file.
It’s new and I’d like it tried by people other than me, on other kit and other water.
Open beta on TestFlight:
testflight.apple.com/join/qmHQZWyD. Install Apple’s TestFlight app first, then the link does the rest. Tell me what’s wrong, what’s right, and what you’d want it to measure, through the Issues and ideas board in the app or here.
Headline: distance, top speed, sessions, gybes and tacks, speed progression.
Take-off: foiling totals, the attempts → near-flights → held funnel per session, flight quality table.
Stops, water time and turns, and the building-and-flying bands.
Speed polar and where near-flights started.
Speed against the wind, by wind strength, and the sails compared.
Near-flights against the wind and the like-with-like board comparison.
