just wondering if anyone knows exactly where the information on the melville water graph on this site is taken from? from a high point? off a point? on a marker on the water?

Hi,

Yep - it's sitting on a pylon (called Dolphin Pylon) in the middle of the river between Point Dundas (also called Majestic Point) and Pelican Point.

I think it suffers a little bit from a 'funnel' effect caused by Majestic Point and occasionally reads a little high in some wind directions .. anybody else have any comments on it's accuracy?

.. Laurie

yes i know the pylon you are talking about laurie
when i check the graphs and they read 15-20 knots i think cool and head down to pelican point and find out its not that strong i must have missed it!? but it does make sense that it might read a bit higher from the funnel effect? thanks for that :)

That wind meter is in my office!
It reads pretty good in an Easterly and NE. Seabreeze and west i'd say it reads 5 knots higher than is real.
Also on a Wednesday afternoon it has a jump in reading when the Royal Perth afternoon yacht race passes.
Also when things a re a bit slow at Peli Point our instructors wizz up here in the tinny and blow it faster to get everyone away from teh computer and have a bit of real world therapy...Hehehehe

Question is how do you "blow it faster"

Take a few politicians in the boat

ha your all too funny i wish i had your office ian
im in hot dirty spider and rat infested roofs all day long
waiting for the seabreeze to cool it down but then get all depressed when the jobs not done and i miss a sail then i get fully bummed
i wish there was a place on the river all lit up at night so you can sail it when ever
speaking of my past life as a surfer i use to surf city beach until 200 300 400am just to get a wave by myself
