My MS-2 8-oh requires a 490 mast with 6 cm on the mast extension.
I just read on the SB w/s forum where Pfaffi suggests using a short extension for such a setup.
He suggests the long mast extension will affect mast curve !!
Is this true ??
If it is NOT true, could one use a 430 mast with 33 cm extension on a Maui Sails Switch 6.4 ?? or recommended 460 with 3 cm
Am guessing in this case - there may be an issue regarding mast stiffness ??
If these differences are minor, could an average joe like myself perhaps not even notice these differences?
As a heavyweight - i probably would prefer the stiffer mast anyway ...
Thx in advance

The more extension up the mast the worse the sail will set. If you can feel it, who knows. But on a cambered sail you will notice difficulty with rotation. No more than about 25 - 30cm up the mast is a rough indicator.
So for your 8.0 needing 6cm, there is no way I'd use a 45cm extension. one of the middle sort of lengths like a 26 - 28cm would be fine.
For the next example, the sail will set best on a 460 as designed. However on a 430 it may well work, but will twist off easier so suit lighter people more than a heavyweight. (I am talking about using the proper mast though).
But again, if the sail recommends a 460 +3cm extension, I'd certainly not be using a 45cm extension in it!
