I don't get it?

What was the sail for?

I'M A WINDSURFER, LOOK AT ME!

Is that it?????????

Yeah, fair enough, I hadn't seen that last sequence of Jason.

I can see some wind-spray in those photos.
I can see some airs. (Apparent wind is a bonus)

Sailing rig is justified.

wish they showed that massive air on the news... instead they showed the dude we went down the wave and fell off... if they stuck that big air in there, would have stolen some of the thunder from the toe-inn boys

What is your problem waveslave? Oh yeah what a "windwanker"! pffff [}:)]! if you had a chance (and the balls) to ride teahupoo with your kite you would do it wouldn't you? Unfortunately these guys ARE windsurfers and a windsurf sail does work if given initial speed...
Oh how unlucky!! A kite needs wind to stay in the sky!

X-man,
Don't you think that it's an absurd stunt when a WINDsurfer gets himself towed into a WINDLESS,
glassy, Chopes hellpit and he knows that the sail will create drag to slow him down,
and that the mast is too high to clear the roof of the barrel?

I know Robert is a crazy guy but that's bordering on madness.

Great photos for the magazines.

Wave snake

Two words for you

TOOL HEAD

If being a full time knob jockey was an olympic event you'd be in the final for sure.
Way to go to win friends and influence people... you do realize the only assistance you are ever likely to get from any sailors would be to help you to pack up your kit, load it into your car, before being asked very politely to leave and not return to the beach, EVER

If you actually kited half as much as you talk it up you might have some thread of credibility to cling to.
I don't doubt that you own a kite... you can probably even inflate it without using a pump... but actually use it ? Now there's a thought

Provide a picture to prove you can 'rip it up' like you claim... oh that's right you need a friend to take a shot of you.
Hmmm that could be a problem for a notorious serial pest like the wave snake !

Step up or step off knob jockey

Hey Comrade,

Is that the best retort you can muster?....
Calling me a silly name....Pfff
How juvenile?

My original post is valid.
Maybe my delivery was a tad blunt but that's just to rattle your cages.
You're being over-sensitive. Wink.

To recap;
Attempting to WINDsurf in glassy conditions in sucking pits is insanity.
It's a stunt for the cameraman.
I like the images but the act is stupid.

PS. For your information, I went kiting yesterday and the day before.
I feel guilty about how often I do get on the water....*blush*

they did it cause it's cool

the sail was because they are using windsurfers, and windsurfers have sails.
they have probably surfed it a bunch of time and then thought. hey lets sail it.
and they did, and it was cool. and until you can do half as good you should SHUT THE F UCK UP.

Curac,

What's 'cool' would be Robert deeply slotted in the pit, mast tip scratching the barrel roof.
That's quite a challenging move for a windsurfer at Chopes *massive understatement*.

The 90 degree vertical no-wind drop,(hence the jet-ski tow-in)is difficult enough,
but the main issue is that the lip is as thick as its height.
That doesn't leave much clearance for the rig together with the surging foamball snapping at your heels.

But in reality, Robert 'sailed' 3 seconds, wiped-out and went over the falls with his doomed gear.
Still cool but stupid.

And by the way Curac and Rosey, I'll never shut the **** up.
I have a right to express my opinion whenever...

Oh dear we've all gone a bit juvenile haven't we... tsk tsk tsk.

I reckon waveslave has a point -- what sort of hero goes windsurfing with no wind? Brings a bad name to our sport imho. Getting one of those noisy slow motorbikes_on_water to allow the aforementioned hero to (edit: wind )surf a wave? Pfft. Those sort of people deserve to have waves trash their gear.

Waveslave puts a much-needed bit of fun into the forum, so please let's be civil about mocking him... I mean just being a kiter is grounds enough for mocking in my book

Try going over to that OTHER side of the forum and be a proud poley, and see how far that gets you

(Edit: much respect to surfers who get tows, no respect to windsurfers who need a tow)

Dead set knob jockey

Let's see some pics of wave snake out on the wide blue pushing the limits... talking the talk is one thing, actually doing it is a whole different matter.
It's the easiest game in town to shoot others down, letting your actions alone prove your worth to your peers is a much greater skill

No doubt the wave snake flew his kite yesterday
As to whether he wowed the crowds with his aerial prowess or gouged and ripped waves to pieces and smashed every lip into oblivion... I reckon that would be tough for anyone to do while standing on the beach

Step up or step off little man

Peto,
Nebbian expressed my point simply and succinctly.

"What sort of hero goes windsurfing with no wind" ?
"Brings a bad name to our sport".

That would be like jet-skiing but you have no petrol.
Then you get a jet-ski to tow yours so you can go jet-skiing.

You guys are obsessed about photos of 'slave, aren't you?

Hey Rosey,
The ****** thought the windsurfing section of this forum would be the place to post a windsurfing topic.
Do you have a better suggestion?
