Im officially depressed, just did the Camp One wind cam check and as agreed with the boys there they were having a breather in paradise. Its blowing 25mph, warm, sunny and beautiful. Beats the *^%$)*# out of being in cold rainy Sydney.
The worse thing is I was doing what they are doing exactly this time last year. Waving at my wife and daughter etc.
Sail back down to Kanaha for lunch and then back out for more sailing. Back to Kihei for beers and watch the sunset.
I cant take it, why did I agree to look at the windcam, aarrgghhh

I feel your pain, we were there for the last two weeks of June last year, look at the web cam every day, we even watch our video of the trip every month, subjecting unsuspecting friends to hours of Gybes and 'there we go out again at Kanaha'

We are planning our next trip for June next year....bring it on!

G,

Don't look mate, this is where the psychological defense of denial works a treat, if it doesn't exist it can't hurt you!!!!!! You went and proved to yourself it existed, and now you have reminded me it exists, and I am depressed as well!!!!!! Oh... for 1992 Maui to be re-lived!!!!!

Yeah J,
I know what you mean!!!!
I hadnt been back since 87', 88' and 89.
Didnt seem all that different.
When the boys left it wasnt a big deal but when I checked the cam this morning and there they were it all came flooding back.
Seeing the squalls come down the coast, the colour of the water change from light green to that deep blue/purple after you pass the reef, the rising of the land as it goes up towards Haleakala as you scream back towards the beach, the first taste of a icy beer after a hard days sailing..........ohhhh shutup and do an Uncle Chop Chop.
Im probably making everyone thats been to Maui depressed. I shall stop feeling sorry for myself.

everyone consider yourself lucky in the Uk the Highest water temp is 16 degrees , and 8 months of the year it is around or less than 10 degrees, I went out today at Botany in a 2/3 mm short sleeve wetsuit and it was great.

Been depressed for 15 years now

Went in 89, 90 and 91. Have been trying to get back since family life settled into some form of normality – and my lovely wife said I was allowed. Ahh, maybe I should just stick to my memories – reality can be a bitch when you hit 40.

Maybe next year

I got my pictures out last night of the world famous 'Banana Bungalow' that I stayed at. Then I shed a tear looking at my pics of uppers and lowers at Kanaha, the dirt road leading in to Sprecklesville, the hill where we sat overlooking Ho'Okipa whilst the Aloha contest ran in mast and and a half high waves with 25 knots, the beautiful grassed rigging areas of Kihei with the sea turtles bobbing in the background. The bright lights of the main street in Lahaiina with Moose Magillacuttys (sic) bar.......
Nah, I'm not depressed at all

See, its not just me that can torture everyone.
A, I stayed at Banana Bungalow my first trip but in those days it was the Happy Valley Inn in Wailuku. You got to listen to locals monster trucks doof doof all night
What about if you stayed up in Haiku, the drive down the Hana hgwy through Maliko Gulch and the first view of the coast near Hookipa with all those whitecaps marching down the coast, priceless.
The drive across from Kihei and seeing the sugar cane going berserk and that first glimpse of the ocean as you drive along past the ****works towards Kanaha.
Im stopping now, before the death threats start.

Or taking your clapped out Nissan hire car through said sugar cane fields peeing yourselves laughing. Or the trip to the airport on the final day after you've had to give your roof racks back to the windsurfing hire shop and so you use packing tape to hold the boards on the roof...

Or how about staying up with the Goyas on their farm, getting up in the morning, picking fresh fruit, before driving down Hana highway, past Hookipa to one of the numerous vego delis, grabbing lunch and some snacks for the day, setting up the family at the kikei beach at Kanaha and taking it in turns sailing with your best friend for 12 days straight, actually thankfull that you are going home coz you cant grip the boom form so much sailing anymore.
