Comrade Gazza

I try answer some of your question

1) Depending on class of ticket, travel with gear no real problem. I have travel to Mauritius with Air Mauritius many times always with own gear. You must be keeping total weight of any bag below 32 kg other wise bag snatchers refuse to lift and put on plane (*This is same for any airline any where in world). If you are traveling economy you must be checking what weight allowance you have. Last year Business class seat was just $650 more than economy ex Perth but you get extra 20 kilo allowance (50kg total) and much more leg room. I tall 193cm so this very important for me... at your weight maybe this no problem ?

2) The hotel I usually stay at in Le Morne is closed for renovations (I fear this now spell end of cheap holiday)You can hire a house in little town of Lagulette (5 min from Le Morne) but you will need also car hiring

3) Transfer to Le Morne from airport with gear approx 50 - 60 US dollar. It help if you travel with group and can be spliting the cost. PM me direct and I give you number and email address of local van driver we use. He has racks on top of van and will do for much cheaper price as you pay him direct so hotel not make its cut

4)Your gear sounds maybe about right but board might be a little small if it gets light. Le Morne is one place you not want to be stuck outside on small board if wind drop... very big current to work against to getting back in - One Eyes approx 800 - 1k off shore, Manawa approx 2 km off shore.

Most important speak to local crew before head out. Felix is name of guy who run Club Mistral station at Indian resort. You ask for him by name and then asking for tips on wind waves ect ect. He is good guy for German

I also put you in contact with some local guys who running new shop, they know the breaks very well and also very happy to helping, Maybe they can be finding you some accomodation in Lagulette also

Final thing... you must be careful with the tide... you can only sail One Eye at mid tide and higher. Also not be disrespecting the break... it is world class for sure BUT it is very very very sharp coral and there is many smashing of the gear on daily basis. If sailing on inside (some bump and jump or big waves when outside is breaking at 6m plus) you must be sailing east of jetty in low tide... otherwise you will be smashing many fin. You also should be taking old fin for first few days for learning where shallow reef is !

Maybe Comrade Cheer Cheer and Comrade MA and Comrade Peto can be helping of the answers for you also as they all have been to Mauritius. Comrade Cheer Cheer has been many times and he sail very well. Comrade MA and Peto very good wave sailors and they hit One Eyes and Manawa last year

Sure sure, many places I not sail.. always looking looking for next spot. I not sail Fiji or Samoa yet... also looking very close at Carolina Islands but you not hearing of this from me OK ?
Many places in WA I not sail yet, looking forward for sailing with Comrade Mark in Esperance sometime soon !
Comrade Boris, yes you probably right, head high or logo to mast high wave breaking on sharp coral reef probably not packing of much punching. You could be ripping of it apart for sure no problem

Very hard for choosing... but I would have to say Mauritius - the ultimate wave riding destination in my opinion with plenty bump and jumping action. Perfect for taking non sailing partner also
As for Comrade Gazza not seeing his wife while in Mauritius... wind normally stop when sun go down so plenty of time for spending with wife from then on

You must be ready to tackle the PWA by now with all this sailing around the world Kremlin. Get over to Cabo Verde for the event starting tomorrow. Looks like a hairy spot

I wish

Sadly sailing many spots does not necesarily make me a good sailor.
I like wave sailing for certain yar but I know for sure I am never ever being in same league as guys on PWA... not even close
Making of the no mistake the only thing I am being professional about sailing is kooking.
If there was world event for kook then maybe I have chance ?

hey kremlin dude... r u goin' to Mauritus this year?

just got back from Exmouth.. saw a very sweet reef break near the light house at the northern tip of the peninsula. I think in a big SW swell with on a light seabreeze would be the go. Will send you a photo.

not too much wind otherwise... tried a to sail a couple of times around Coral Bay but wind died everytime I had rigged a sail.

Comrade Stehsegler
Any joy at Coros ?
Will have to be checking map for this break you speak of... will pull a few strings and get some satellite pics of the area for much better examination... there is US installation not far from where you speak so my Comrades back in Russia will have some close imagery for certain yar.
Sadly I no think I go Mauritius this year... first time in almost 5 years I not going. Also with resort being renovated accommodation wil be much more expenbsive than for usual.
When you come up Animal bay for sailing.. plenty wind at present, sailed everyday for last 6 bar one !

The break is sailable, the locals call it the "bommie" (very original) but it's very light on the inside, that lighthouse hill casts a huge windshadow!!
If anything goes wrong, it's a long drift downwind to sea urchin covered shallow reef, with some mean shorebreaks.
I sat and watched it in 04 for a couple of hours, about 4 guys out getting very long rides, mixing it with the whales on the way back out.

I was very torn, but couldn't convince myself to go out, my excuse was that I forgot my booties! Just getting old I guess.
