Hi
Windsurfing in Melbourne area - I was wondering what locations are decent on NW-W winds? I'm reasonably new (since Jan07) to windsurfing in Victoria, having come from Northern NSW but from what I can tell, this weekend seems like it might be good... just curious on some decent spots and wanting to try out a new board. Cheers!

Green Point (end of South Road) Brighton is probably the best spot in the north end of the bay for this direction. That's where I'll be heading tomorrow if I can escape from a family function. If you haven't sailed there before, just watch out for the reef that extends south from the point.

Green point is definitely the go if that is close enough - you will probably see a few guys out there on Saturday. It has a nice grass rigging area too.
You could also try Elwood Sailing club or Point Ormond (just up from Elwood) - both with pretty good rigging areas, but tend to be a little gusty in a northerly.
If it is a strong northerly, the south end of the bay at Rye puts on a good show, flat-ish water in the shallows with not too bad wind-blown swell as the water gets deeper - but northerlies often windier on the northern side of the bay, and sometimes dont even make it that far south.

FINALLY SOME WIND FORECAST FOR THE WEEKEND!!!!
Should be a good turn out at Green Pt if it's NW. Rye is good in NW too. Ricketts Pt is the place in a pumping W.
If you sail Greens then say hi. Always good to have a chat to windsurfers new to the area. I'll be on the yellow Neil Pryde combats.
Cheers,
Fletch

Finally....WIND!
It's been a long time between drinks. Gusty or not, our local spot (SW Vic) is an offshore for the next couple of days....I'll be there regardless! (hopefully with someone)

Tommorrow will be a toss up between Green Point (Brighton)or Ricketts Point( Beaumaris ) depending on how much West it goes . Ricketts is great in a Westerly .

Thanks guys, thats awesome... bit more of an idea now. I have sailed at Rye a few times, which was nice but came across a few too many sandbars. Maybe I was in the wrong spot, and didn't go down the beach far enough. Apart from that only Elwood, which was also ok, besides the hefty parking fee, but I guess that's normal. Will stop by Ricketts and Green Point Sat. for sure to see who's out. Thanks for all the tips!

Good to see the Vic guys posting (not much wind lately?)
Just curious, but I'm in Geelong a bit...where's a good spot close to Geelong for a sail at short notice and with which direction of wind?
I had a look at 'Eastern Gardens' foreshore during a good NEasterly a while back and it looked great for flat'n'fast (unfortunately w/surfing gear was in shed 300kms away.)

Thanks again everyone. Had a great day yesterday (Sat). Ended up at Point Ormond. Was indeed a little gusty but great non the less. Great rigging area and a friendly crew.
