A few weeks ago I sailed Mettams when we had that big swell and it is such an awesome place to wave sail on 2m plus swell in Perth, but it looks like the news is out! with the big crowd factor there the other day.
When the swell is up and Dutchies is only waist high Mett's goes off with half mast high faces and 2 or 3 bottom turns per wave, such an easy wave to sail. It's definately worth the 15 minute drive from Dutchies, I can't believe I wasted so many days over the years not sailing there on a good swell Parking is a bit tight and their are a couple of rocks to look out for but the conditions outway the negatives by far
I rate it as the best wavesailing in the Metro area !!!!!

It’s a sheltered life down in cott with a big coastline just waiting to be found
But the best wavesailing in the Metro area may be not
It was above average that day though

lets see:
hookipa, gnaraloo, metams!!!!
I cant see the three places mentioned in the same sentence?
I reckon there may be five good days per year at metams (relatively speaking)
It's an easy wave, maybe bottom turn plus a reo on the closeout, then cruise on the reform to the inside. but with a punishment for those who let their rig go through the graveyard/rocks to the north .

I would call brighton (aka washing machine) better for the low swell range and can handle a bigger crowd, and has no rocks. mets cant really handle the big crowds and is pretty ordinary for wave sailing at the best of times.

Hmmm you Haven't sailed it on a good day 3 bottom turns on a wave or....You regularly sail there and don't want heaps of crew to come up and enjoy themselves(selfish). I didn't mention low swell range, I mentioned 2 metre plus swell for Metts and I don't think Hookipa and Gnarloo are in the METRO area.
I was just stating what a great place it can be when the swell is up and dutchies still remains flat..ish.
Any positive suggestions for better wavesailing in the Metro (that means Perth) area on 2m plus swell days????
Thanks for trying to dampen my enthusiasm and positive attitude
When you look at half a glass of water ... do you see it as half full.. or half empty!

ok flatus, you might get the 3 bottom turns in on a 2m swell at metams and it is fun to sail there.

sorry to burst your bubble with such a negative attitude.

Can I suggest driving to one of the better spots in the state this weekend to compare for yourself - maybe youve been at duchies for too long?

F.Amateur,
Brighton is south scarborough, and gets wind waves plus whatever swell there is. It breaks on a sand bank that can get shallow at times and has a healthy current. I would probably rate as good or better than metams, but can get a bit crunchy on the bigger swells so metams is the alternative.
