Gidday guys, have an enforced visit to the Old Bar area around the New Year. Can anyone suggest any good spots to sail up that way?
I know the Forster and Wallis lake areas.
Doesnt matter whether its waves or flat water, just dont want to waste any days that i might have to sit around talking to rello's
Thanks

I use to sail at mud bishops down the dirt road past the airstrip from surf club many moons ago when the entrance was open.i heard the kiters have taken a liking to the spot.May be good on high tide as the backwater is now shallow due to the entrance closing up with sand.Good N/E flatwater though.
Even the river in front of the sailing club in Taree is good on an afternoon N/E.
I'll be around during x-mas new year if the wind is up.

Has anyone sailed at Harrington? Looking at the map, it looks like it might be nice in a NE.

Not a very good spot for launching your board at Harrington as most of it is a rock wall the other side which is Manning Point could be better I have never sailed out there.

Hi. Harrington is way too shallow, and numerous Bull Sharks sighted from The Gantry by locals. Manning Point would be much better. Access to Manning Point from Harrington is via a boatramp near Harrington Waters, with a slim channel past oyster beds and canals, so prolly Bull Sharks +++ in the vicinity here also. Otherwise Manning Point is accessible through Taree via Old Bar Road. Mudbishops is now popular with kiters, but haven't seen any other windsurfers.
There is a large river area near Croki that looks inviting which I have kayaked around, but again I fear would be chockers with Bull Sharks also.
I am only learning and on my days off (casual work) go on the Manning River from the sailing club near KFC with a big grassed rigging area. Otherwise, as cutting my teeth with some small attempts at surf with small stuff at Crowdy Head SLSC with big grassed area, or Diamond Head National Park.
Otherwise, have had lots of fun at both Queens Lake, Laurieton and any of the lakes around Forster/south including Myall.
In the last year and a bit since I took up the sport I haven't come across any other windsurfers other than one day travelling home from Newcastle near Elim at the Great Lakes Sailing Club.
Jordans Boat Shed at Port Macquarie has local knowledge and lots of windsurfing gear in the Port area, but prolly too far north for what you are looking for.
B.t.w. I have a healthy respect for Bull Sharks, as they have taken quite a number of local dogs, had a go at the occasional surfer, and they are rife in canal and estuary areas around here, testimony of bridge-work divers. That is why I prefer the surf areas with clear water.

The other place that hasn't been mentioned is Halliday's Point, betwwen Old Bar and Forster. Drive south from the bowling club into the national park/state forest.

If you have a 4wd, you can get onto the beach, which helps access. Get a permit from council.

On a NE, sail S of the rocky outcrop. Good clean wind and nice beachies.

In a S, sail north of the rocky outcrop. As clean as a S gets, with a rolling offshore reef but a massive crunching breachbreak if there's big swell. An easy launch near the rocky outcrop.
