I will have to truant school! In a southerly I'm thinking Long Reef (Makaha) or further north if the wind swings SE. I should be able to get out about 1:00pm

Seano, we head out off the beach just by the ferry wharf. In a Southerly it's a straight close haul out to the open area. It's excellent for blasting and the only place i can go before work...

I think ill be joing Crash at Fairlight as its 500 yards from hoem and not a bad place so sail. I will probably head out at near enoough first light and sail for a few hours before heaidng into work, but it really needs to be South to Sou East to work and not the SW as forecast on monday.
Theres no waves but some good sweel comes through the heads and the way the forecast looks could get big.

All sorted Donk. #1 can't get enough of the beach as it is. So I'm forced to go sailing anyway. #2 will follow the lead.

And no need to skip work down here. Southerly is going to hit Sunday arvo.

Ed, tried secret spot the other week. Brilliant. W or SW.

David, Makaha is the Northern side of Long Reef Headland. You rig up at either Brownwater/Fishermans Beach or even Collaroy and then sail upwind to the break.
Great spot in a southerly as the rockshelf tends to make the waves nice and smooth as it makes a break of sorts.

Ed. as smooth as it gets. and it was pretty windy. with good swell, you get longer rides than anywhere. SW is perfect (even dead south would be awesome). Sailed it in dead West and it was still ok.

think i might have to leave you guys to it tomorrow morning in the harbour - narrabeen lake took its toll on me today with that westerly, i should recover by afternoon if it swings around to SE.

It was its usual gusty self but I think everywhere else was too. Certainly surprising to get a nice warm windy day when they were forecasting crappy weather. There were quite a few sailors out yesterday as more and more guys realised the wind was on. Lots of lulls and then 25 knot bullets, still bloody good fun though.
Got a display of 31.5 knots on the GPS so Im happy

The boys hit "The Kick" at Collaroy. Never before Have I seen it sailable from the round the corner through to the main beach but.... no wind on the inside. The key was to get two turns and then gybe out but the temptation was too much. Once on the beach it was almost impossible to get back out. Some waves were genuinely mast high (4m) and with cross off wind the rides looked unreal. This was the sort of day when the truly great wavesailers are able to show their skill. I picked up a couple of big ones, managed a dodgy bottom turn and then slid out attempting to outrun the white water. Too much time death gripping the boom worrying about getting smashed. This was in contrast to other sailers who were going really deep, laying down the sail in the bottom turn and then cracking off the top to line up another - Orange NP sail, North Ice guy, Blue Goya sail and others stood out. A classic Sydney day.

I saw a couple of guys going out at the vacant lot, pretty sure one was Craig on the NP Alpha. From the road all I could see was the top thrid of his mast and he was only just off the beach. Looked huge out at Makaha.
From up the plateau it was victory at sea at Longy and out the back at Big Makaha. Bloody windy too. Godd work fella's.

Isn't it typical, was green arrows all week and I thought , you beauty, Melbourne Cup, I'll blow that off and go for a sail for the arvo. But what happens??? Yep, talk it up and Huey gets the irits and says screw you, I'm gonna make you slog and plod.
Glad someone got to use yesterdays gale anyway. Any photos taken at all? Larko you get any snaps mate?

Nah, didnt have the camera with me. Also a bit too far away from my place to see all the action without zoom lens. Awesome conditions though.
Who bought new gear??
Who talked about the wind too much??
Who said the green arrows will be here all week??

well bugger me, I ended up having an awesome sail this arvo after all. A pretty good 10-18 knots down at BB. Got to use my RS4 in anger for the first time and it was sensational. Got a PB max speed so pretty stoked about that. Got to sail absolutely non stop for 2 hours and only stopped cause my hands were red raw. I know I know, HTFU!
